I totally miss the ability to change the text size of articles in the app. Neither can the font size be changed through a setting, nor can the text size be changed through the standard pinch-to-zoom function that seems quite ubiquitous. I read SA often on my iPhone; such a feature would be useful.

Not intuitive

anodmia2020 on

It keeps kicking me out and I have to continuously put my credentials back in. Plus horrible that I can’t get all my scientific American paid subscriptions together in an easy to find layout

Always a great read!

Pity

Recurring problems with downloads, ask´s for payment although I´ve got a valid subscription . Magazine itself is good.

Authorization lost regularly

lotr56 on

Paid a one year subscription, but the authorization is lost all the times. It's a hassle to renew it regularly. I wanna log in and read! Also I liked the paper mag 30 yrs ago better. Now it seems to be flashier and the main articles seem much shorter to me.

Absolute rubbish!

w1nt3rs3a on

Considering this is meant to be a scientific publication from a serious publisher they are beyond the pail: slow, illogical, loses login details continuously, painful to navigate, obsessive in trying to get a rating out of you (there you go…) and, of all things, no iPad Pro support!! Also: much lower resolution than previous version (downloads are 10Mb instead of 200MB, sure, but the quality is atrocious). Definitely not worth the digital-only subscription, I will have to continue the paper subscription.

Why making it worse?

Tagileser on

I was absolutely disappointed when i opened the app today. The layout is awfully ugly and inefficient to read. Pictures are low-low resolution. Show me the button to switch back to what was a very good interface.

Previous version was significantly better

RubEE_gv on

Can't really see an improvement to how the app worked before. The title page doesn't morph to different covers anymore and the resolution of the cover looks lower as well. There don't seem to be any animations anymore; overall this looks like like a seriously cut down app and that also impacts previous issues that you had downloaded before. You need to download them again and then get the low tech version of them. Real shame as this was a beautiful app before, perfectly adapted for the possibilities an iPad offers. I am very unhappy with that change. For users who are concerned about the size of an issue (it looks like this low resolution issues are smaller in size) this low-res version should be offered as an alternative but this shouldn't have become the norm.
