Description

Standard Notes is a private and secure end-to-end encrypted notes app. It allows you to write and sync your notes across all your devices, including your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and web browser.
Private means your notes are end-to-end encrypted, so only you can read your notes. Even we can't read the contents of your notes.

Proton integration needs to happen before I give 5 stars.

Rare and Surprisingly Wonderful

I have had a number of note taking programs, and while I won’t spend time talking about what is wrong with them, I do want to celebrate everything about this product that has helped me regain confidence in companies that both offer excellent products and also respect your privacy. Standard Notes is such a product. I enjoy knowing that they cover my information with a cloak of protection, and that I can use the product in similar and familiar ways as other notes programs. They also have a few surprises: self-hosting, daily blogging functionality with ease of use, and importing from programs like Evernote is particularly simple. Thank you, Standard Notes team, for creating a product that is worth the investment.

Great Privacy; Change My Notetaking Game; Even Self-Hosting

Standard Notes definitely changed the way I manage my notes and jot down my ideas. I started with the basic features and then explored the self-hosting capability. I haven’t been able to find this combo of features and privacy with any other similar application. It has exceeded all my expectations. The ability to host my notes on my private server provides the peace of mind - it’s not just an app; it’s a game-changer for personal data security.

Amazing Note app for the security conscious

I have been using this application for several months now. Was looking for an alternative to OneNote and came across this from several recommendations. The security forward thinking of the developers is what initially got me to try this application out. This application has done everything that I would expect out of a modern note applications. Good UI with With their security forward focus, it also gives you the ability to self host as well, which is a huge plus in my book

One to rule them all

I have used standard notes before and have tried others but I find my self going back to standardnotes as apple and others notes apps lacked what I wanted from a self hosted perspective . I enjoy the layout and the features of standardnotes and if ur UI kinda person you will like their UI layout.

Just can’t find anything wrong with it

It took me a little too long to get used to it, and remember how to do little things, but ever since I got the hang of it, I simply haven't come across one single issue. This app could use a nice little cheat sheet, especially for beginners. However, in the folder/tags screen on the iPhone, the far end of long, nested tag names aren't visible, so you have to rely on emojis to select the one you want. I love how it looks on the screen, and how you can drag things to folders or sub-folders. It looks like I'm hooked for life, but they say they will stick to our discounted 5-year price when the time comes. Being owned by Proton is very reassuring, because I coincidentally use every feature Proton has to offer, with great starting discounts, as well. All the top-notch security is just an added bonus. Customer service for SN is out of this world, too. I have practically become friends with one of the representatives, and we chat about ideas and so forth.

Great privacy options with awesome pro plan

Love this note app with one exception; no dark mode. I have RP so my vision in default mode is hard to see in sunlight. I’ve searched for the dark mode or system mode setting without luck. Other than that, I would plunk down $19/yr in a NY minute for the pro plan. Nice work.

Still can’t login

Been unable to login on iOS for a couple months. Can login elsewhere just not in this app. Talked with support about it and they said they were working on it but that was months ago now.

What’s the point?

Nah thx tho on

I set up the one week trial to see if it was worth the price. I work exclusively in markdown and spreadsheets, so having an app the natively works with both would be lovely for all my notes. I decided to sign up for the $120/yr subscription because it offered a weeks trial. Well, sadly the trial is just the regular app. I can’t use any of the features that supposedly belong to the subscription. Apple shows the trial is active for a few more days, but anything I try to do in the app asks me to upgrade to the subscription I technically already have. Doesn’t work on my phone, my iPad, or my mac. Why bother giving me a trial if I can’t test to see if it’s worth?

Great App, Little Expensive to Unlock Features

Clarentium on

Love it so far, although $90 or $120 a year is a lot to commit to without a trial period of the paid features. A couple of times after heavy use my screen went white but it started again after I closed the app and reopened it. It also exits select mode when scrolling through a list of notes to which one wants to check boxes to assign values (stars, pins, tags). Fix these bugs and it will be even better.
