Description

Standard Notes is a private and secure end-to-end encrypted notes app. It allows you to write and sync your notes across all your devices, including your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and web browser.
Private means your notes are end-to-end encrypted, so only you can read your notes. Even we can't read the contents of your notes.
Simple means it does one job and does it well. Standard Notes is a safe and lasting place for your life's work. Our focus is making it easy to write notes wherever you are and syncing them with encryption to all your devices.
Our users love us for:
• Personal Notes
• Tasks & Todos
• Passwords & Keys

• Offline access, so you can access your downloaded notes even without a connection.

• No limit on number of notes.
• Passcode lock protection, along with Touch ID and Face ID protection.
• A tagging system to organize your notes (like #work, #ideas, #passwords, #crypto).

Standard Notes is completely open-source, which means when we say your notes are encrypted with industry-leading XChaCha-20 encryption, and that only you can read your notes, you don't have to take our word for it. Our code is open to the world to audit.
We made Standard Notes simple because longevity is important to us. We want to make sure we're here, protecting your notes, for the next hundred years. You shouldn't have to find a new notes app every year.
To sustain our development, we offer optional paid subscriptions which give you access to powerful tools like:
• Productivity editors (like Markdown, Code, Spreadsheets)
• Beautiful themes (like Midnight, Focus, Solarized Dark)
• Powerful cloud tools including daily backups of your encrypted data delivered to your email inbox every day, or backed up to your cloud provider (like Dropbox and Google Drive).
We're always happy to talk, whether it be a question, thought, or issue. Please feel free to email us any time at [email protected]. When you take the time to send us a message, we'll be sure to do the same.

Standard Notes Reviews

Great app, but buggy & slow like hell

I’m a huge fan of Standard Notes, using it X-platform. I’m not sure what release it’s been, but for the last weeks, this app has become unusable: It takes ages to start up on iOS (iPhone & iPad), freezes and/or remains unresponsive. Takes me many minutes to open a single note, that can’t be it! Moreover, I am unable to sign in on iPad with 2DA activated as it keeps trying to login for 2-3mins and then return an “invalid input” error. Please fix this, or my premium subscription was renewed for the last time.

Terrible UX on big phone

I have a 12 Pro Max and navigating the app is infuriating. No edge swipe, you have to reach for the back button on the top left or X on the top right. @devs, please test your app on a real device, it helps…

I switched from Evernote > Bear > this and I think a notes app being open source, cross platform, privacy focus, saas and a new approach to different editors/views is just great! 5 stars

The app has potential however it still lacks some key features. I’m not going to pay for the extensions until they are implemented! - Attach multiple files (not just one) and inline - Folders on mobile - Passcode unlock should be required only if TouchID (or FaceID) fails, not just every single time! (just like 1Password unlocking process) - FaceID support/iPhone X 5 stars when implemented

Feels great to have privacy

Paid User Got Screwed

I’ve been a paid Premium user for 5 years. Most of my notes were formatted with “Super”. As soon as my subscription ended - after 5 years mind you- all my notes became a mess of html codes with the needed data buried somewhere in between. Unless I pay again I can’t use my notes anymore. Or I have to painstakingly go through each of them and fish out the data I need and paste into a new plain text note. We’re talking about many thousands of lines though. Standard Notes was fabulous and virtually all my passwords and other sensitive data is with SN. Now I regret that because of the stupid formatting thing. With Proton Mail buying SN I was hoping to see some improvements, including a way to revert Super-formatted notes to gracefully go to Plain Text. So far this hasn’t happened. Secondarily, the main reason for SN really is the end to end encryption, and cross platform syncing. Beyond that, it’s actually a bit of a mess. Numerous formatting options that are pretty basic and often superfluous (why have 5 Markdown options?) There is no easy way to send myself or third parties notes to their email addresses or Telegram, etc. Disappointing how a paid long term user now has to look for alternatives.
