The Sam Thielman article on Tolkien epitomises why the Guardian will always be seen by most as junk journalism and dismissed as leftie tosh. It was a struggle to read this nonsense article as an African. I am successful because I work hard and was blessed with intelligence. Opportunity? Yes - my parents are rich Jo’Burg blacks. Rich way before I was born and before Apartheid ended. Heaven forbid!!! The “progressive” pink Europeans with their fuzzy facial hair do us no good because the inclusion narrative is fuelling the “offline raised eyebrow” that is far more harmful than a lynching. It can never be cancelled by the woke because you can’t fight what you can’t see. It’s gone underground. Disguised. Evolved. It exists in dinner parties, board rooms, clubs, bedrooms, and nooks in pubs. I don’t want to be thought of as a box ticker or “got there because she’s black”. It’s an insult to those of us who achieve based on merit. The hidden harm from a black 007 or Frodo is the same as a white Kujte Kinte or Malcolm X. It stinks of racism both ways. Don’t do it - nothing good will come from it. We don’t want these progressives fighting our corner
