Now that Guardian Editions doesn’t work anymore, I am trying to use this version. Each time I click on an article, it makes me sign in. Then it says Something Went Wrong: we couldn’t sign you in at the moment (100% of the time), and lets me read that article. When I select the next article, the same thing happens.
For a number of weeks the app has been very slow to load articles, and the app glitches and momentarily freezes when clicking an article or scrolling, have cleared cache, reset, reinstalled, but nothing changes. Is installed on personal iPhone, work iPhone, and iPad all running iOS18 and they are all having exactly the same slow loading issues with this app. The issue seemed to start with an update to the Guardian app some weeks back, since around the end of October, after the iOS18.1 release I think, don’t know what changed, but before then the app worked perfectly.
As a guardian app user for around 15 years, this latest edition is awful. It doesn’t automatically download news so keeps searching when I’m on the tube and the home page is no longer customisable so you’re forced to look up sections you’re interested in and cant remove sections you’re not. I’m also pretty unimpressed about the recent sale of the observer as I’ve paid a subscription to the guardian with the expectation that I would get both papers. Not anymore. Won’t be renewing again.
In ‘My Guardian’ I used to see the things I chose to follow. For example Philippa Perry. Now my followed items has been changed to topics ( it’s no longer by journalist for eg.)AND I didn’t follow ‘opera’ or ‘homes’ it goes on. The list is now huge and by topic and populated by things I didn’t choose so that I can’t find the journalist or columnist that I want . I absolutely hate this.
I understand that the Guardian has a love hate relationship in the public eye. That being said the journalists that risk a lot to do their reporting so that the common man can be better informed is something that I am grateful for! Great journalism with topics that open our minds to different perspectives
I am thrilled with the new Just-like-the-real-newspaper look of the Guardian app. Because I live in a block of flats I wasn’t able to receive a delivered paper and have missed it so much. This replica of the daily printed paper is wonderful, thank you so much!
Great app but why would you not have a button to share articles externally?
Keep having to sign back in even tho subbed thru Apple. Now content not loading, circular arrow icon instead. Don’t personally like the front page either- preferred the configurable sections. Journalism good tho. Just as well really.
The new version is a massive step backwards if you’re using it on an iPhone. Typeface is far too small for an iPhone screen when scanning pages. Clunking transition from page scan to reading articles. Crosswords are unusable on the iPhone. Dreadful.
