The Guardian FAQ
Is The Guardian free?
Yes, The Guardian is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is The Guardian legit?
🤔 The The Guardian app's quality is mixed. Some users are satisfied, while others report issues. Consider reading individual reviews for more context.
I’m from Malta and read The Guardian almost daily. I have these two comments to make:
1. When you’re writing an article about another country please make sure that your journalists verify the facts. A case in point was your article about Malta and its passport scheme which appeared 2 or 3 days ago. The article had a lot of inaccuracies, half-truths and outright inventions especially when it mentions Daphne Caruana Galizia, the journalist who was murdered in October 2017. It was so obvious that the writer of the article was fed these lies by a local idiot whose only agenda is to demean our legitimate government.
2. Your constant pleading for funds from your readers is monotonous and tedious.
Biased
Biased and non-factual. Such a shame.
Mr Phillip Martin Micallef
Great app! Easy to use and share - and the reporting is just what you would expect from The Guardian newspaper. Love it!
Great news app
From my point of view the guardian is one of the best newspapers in the world. The app is working perfectly and only notify you the very important news.
The Guardian
Great App with latest up to date news
Great App
Probably the best news app!
Sign-in doesn’t work properly
Now that Guardian Editions doesn’t work anymore, I am trying to use this version. Each time I click on an article, it makes me sign in. Then it says Something Went Wrong: we couldn’t sign you in at the moment (100% of the time), and lets me read that article. When I select the next article, the same thing happens.
Glitching
For a number of weeks the app has been very slow to load articles, and the app glitches and momentarily freezes when clicking an article or scrolling, have cleared cache, reset, reinstalled, but nothing changes. Is installed on personal iPhone, work iPhone, and iPad all running iOS18 and they are all having exactly the same slow loading issues with this app. The issue seemed to start with an update to the Guardian app some weeks back, since around the end of October, after the iOS18.1 release I think, don’t know what changed, but before then the app worked perfectly.
The new app is dreadful
As a guardian app user for around 15 years, this latest edition is awful. It doesn’t automatically download news so keeps searching when I’m on the tube and the home page is no longer customisable so you’re forced to look up sections you’re interested in and cant remove sections you’re not. I’m also pretty unimpressed about the recent sale of the observer as I’ve paid a subscription to the guardian with the expectation that I would get both papers. Not anymore. Won’t be renewing again.
Following section is awful
In ‘My Guardian’ I used to see the things I chose to follow. For example Philippa Perry. Now my followed items has been changed to topics ( it’s no longer by journalist for eg.)AND I didn’t follow ‘opera’ or ‘homes’ it goes on. The list is now huge and by topic and populated by things I didn’t choose so that I can’t find the journalist or columnist that I want . I absolutely hate this.
