I was not like this a couple of yeas ago! Now Upwork is extremely expensive, client-friendly and as a frelancer you spent a lot of money to get in touch with scammers that send you links to WhatsApp and require work before payment.

Its really slow

As a designer working in the field for more than 12+ years, Upwork is the most counter-intuitive, complicated and abusive platform I’ve used. Everything there is a struggle to manage: finding jobs, communication, even uploading portfolio and works. Not helping get jobs AT ALL. LinkedIn send me job alerts with relevant jobs every day. Upwork does nothing to help me. And why not make contact with the clients and manage communication and invoicing outside of the platform? What is my reason to use it, to pay all the fees? It is unreasonably expensive. I’ve lost about 500 USD on my first job alone—fees and VAT, which I am not even obliged to pay in my country. There are even “withdrawal” fees they charge for sending you the money. In the age of Revolut, seriously?! All jobs I’ve seen there are with budgets at max 300-500 USD. I don’t know how people survive and make money there. I get that they want to make it secure and legal, but for someone that pays all their taxes this really doesn’t work. Honestly, I think it is abusive to creators, which is so sad, since being a freelancer is such a struggle. It sickens me that poor people from struggling economies agree to work for 50, 100 USD for a job. With hourly rates of 10-15 USD. Those are clearly people that don’t have a high living standard. And you charge them 20%… So sad. My client (which I found from a previous job on LikedIn!) agreed to move outside the platform and accept invoices. For them it would be cheaper too, since I don’t need to pump up my hours to make up for the fees. I hope I will never have to use Upwork again, and will not recommend it to anyone.

This is the best platform for freelancers! They have the best customer support and they are answering any request as soon as possible ! Enjoy the app

Too much scam and the real companies takes an eternity to answer emails I haven’t got a single real lead. I’ve been invited to apply hundreds times and is a scam On YouTube people making money without the “premium” membership have to have smell for scammers. Isn’t a safe place to post your product and information

It has been a week since I opened an account with Upwork. I have not received identity verification pop up or notification. There is no support (customer service or email), where I can get a response from real human. Chatbot doesnt understand questions beyond standard FAQs. What i have heard is that you have a higher chance of winning a project is your agency or freelancer has been verified. So. The wait is on. If I dont hear back soon, i am planning to cancel my membership.
