Good renewal for experienced meditators
I have meditated for years, but lately my meditation felt like a “ long dry spell.” Like an athlete who repeats basic training at the start of a new season, it has been helpful to go back to the basics.

I love meditation, generally love sleep stories or ways to help relax into sleeping. But one of the things I constantly wish this app had is a AppleTV app, sometimes I want to just put meditation on to my tv and just be away from my phone from electronics and just listen to a sleep story in the background when I sleep and have it in playing. Like I use my Apple TV a lot when I am trying to spend my time sleeping and sometimes just put on calming podcasts or apps like Calm on my AppleTV. Just hope someday that compatibility happens soon especially as the holidays gets closer and more stress in the job that I work comes near I depend deeply on this app during my sleep insomnia moments where I am more in my thoughts more restless. Genuinely hope that day some day comes because at night I want to try to be less on my phone.
I’ve had 10 Percent Happier for maybe 6 or 7 years now, and if I were just reviewing the actual meditations, this would be an easy, hands-down 5 star review. I’ve tried a lot of different apps and teachers, and none have such varied and thoughtful meditations as those featured on 10 Percent. It’s what has kept me coming back…even as every year, there is less and less actual new content—this year being the worst of all. There have been more app redesigns in the last year than there have been new courses. (And I agree with many other recent reviews in that I find the newest redesign incredibly restrictive and not user friendly, with the mandatory check-in and the cumbersome scroll on the Home Screen, which only lets you view one meditation at a time there.) Often, instead there will be a new “challenge” that just repurposes previous courses or meditations. Even the “Brand New” section gets a new single meditation maybe once every couple of months. I’m hopeful based on some feedback to other reviews that overhauls are coming, but if that’s just more of the same as the last years, I don’t think I can justify another 100 dollars, at least until there are real updates. I understand that this is different than a streaming service since meditations can be evergreen and repeatable (to a point) but when you’re charging a recurring amount of almost ten dollars a month, I’d hope that there’s recurring care and attention toward the meditations that so many people love—not the UI. Short of that, I wish they’d just let the app become a legacy one that you purchase for a one-time fee.
That’s it, really, the authors and content available on this app have changed my life in a very good way. I’m just a novice, but benefitting greatly from my meditation practice based upon this content, which presents methods of meditation practice that are simple and effective.
I started with headspace ten years ago and have tried the majority of major apps. I really liked Waking Up before I found this one. I like the combo of a concept video and then meditating. The courses are great to keep me engaged as well as the stats (which aren’t gamified but do motivate me to stick with it)
Dan Harris, and the teachers he has partnered with, have greatly influenced my mindfulness journey. I am forever grateful to the 10% Happier team.
Your whole philosophy was antithetical to turning over individual decisions to someone else or some machine. The checkin gate is very intrusive and I can’t get past that to believe in you as a valuable source of ideas and information again — get rid of it or at least make it optional!
Was five stars and highly recommend the app - best array of teachers of any service by FAR and the ad free podcast access is great. But really don’t like the new update and miss the more easily navigable Home Screen. I understand the new concept but please make it optional
I love this app the way it was. This latest update is just horrible. You messed it up. Please fix it.
I don’t want to “check in” and have meditations selected on my behalf. Please make that an OPTION, so it’s there for people who want it but not forced on those of us who don’t.
