Expose steering devices to HomeKit or allow to set default device characteristics
IKEA home smart devices are relatively inexpensive for home automation system. What I like is the ability to use the IKEA steering devices to manually switch on and off IKEA bulbs and outlets even if the TRADFRI gateway is down. The only caveat is all IKEA steering devices are not currently exposed to HomeKit, so there is no way to use the steering devices for creative home automation. For example, I will like the ability to set the IKEA bulbs to 100% brightness and 4000K colour temperature (depending on the bulb itself) when I use the IKEA remote and dimmer switch to manually switch on the bulbs. Right now, whenever I switch on the bulb, it remembers the previous setting when it was last switch off (which could be, for example, 25% brightness and 2200K color temperature, and which is not I want). Perhaps IKEA Home Smart app can allow one to configure a set of default characteristics for the bulbs when they are switched on manually by the steering devices.
Double press
It would be very useful to have more functions with multiple activation of switches and or buttons.
E.g one press of the controller turns on a single bulb, double press within 2 seconds turns on both bulbs in a dual bulb light.
Couldn't connect to gateway after two tears
I'm sure the app works fine, but what's the point when the hardware it's supposed to control drops out hard after a long time. Ikea support did not attempt to help due to warranty.
Not connecting
Recently (20 May 2020) I am not able to connect to the devices. The physical remote switches still work, luckily. Those light switches were able to switch on once, they went on and of a few times and the connections lost permanently while the lights are still ON. Pretty much disappointing.
So far worked fine
I have managed to connect the 2 bulbs that came in the package and so far all functions work fine.
