It’s easy with the IKEA Home smart 1 app and TRÅDFRI gateway. Use one setting for early morning lighting and music, another for late evenings and a third for cooking or working at home.
You can dim, turn off, turn on, change colours and switch from warm to cold light. Raise or lower blinds. Turn on your music – then turn it up, turn it down or pause it. And you can even control your air purifier to improve the air quality at home.
With the IKEA Home smart 1 app, you can also connect to Apple Home, Amazon Alexa or Google Home and control it all with your voice.
What you’ll get with the IKEA Home smart 1 app and TRÅDFRI gateway:
• The ability to control your lights and blinds from the app
• The ability to turn audio on and off, pause it and control volume
• Customisable settings, including changing the position of blinds, light colours and choosing warm or cold light
• Timers with morning and evening options
• The ability to turn your air purifier on and off, and set it to a fan speed that suits the needs of your home

Yes, IKEA Home smart 1 is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is IKEA Home smart 1 legit?
⚠️ The IKEA Home smart 1 app has poor ratings and negative feedback. Users seem unsatisfied with its performance or features.
Kudos to IKEA for continuing to maintain this app and the Tradfri gateway. My setup is quite reliable with Apple HomeKit. It would be nice if the app was a bit more intuitive for grouping and managing devices, but I guess I need to get a Dirigera if I want the latest and greatest.

Absolute Junk
Whoever developed this app should be lead out to pasture. Finicky doesn’t even come close to describing the mind numbing stupidity of having to set up this app.
Not so smart home
Why does an app to remotely manage a smart home disable itself once you leave your home. This used to work just fine. What was the reason to break this functionality. I am removing all traddfri devices and replacing them with something that is not so stupid.
Never very stable, no longer working on iOS17
I love the Ikea system and it usually works ok with Homekit. Been stable for a couple of years actually. But lately I started having issues again with some lights disappearing from Hoekit. But that seemed to resolve itself. But now, with iOS 17, my bridge simply stopped being available and I can no longer add lights at all to a remote. Related to iOS 17? Not sure, but getting support is not easy with Ikea, so I'm writing here as they seem to respond sometimes.
Very picky and strange
Everything makes these Ikea automation devices need resetting. If power. Network. Etc. goes off 6 times off and on and 4 presses on the back and ya put your left foot in and shake it all about. What if the hokee pokee is what it is all about???
Everything Wiped… WTH
I avoid using this app because it’s junk. I use the Home app from Apple to do all the work I need.
Worked fine until today when Ikea decided to wipe every single device (42 of them) and made me start over all the way back to the hub.
Who has 6 hours to reprogram everything from scratch????
Time to throw this entire line of garbage out.
Finally this app is stable and working well
We have been using this system for a while, and it’s now working quite well. They seem to have sorted out the earlier issues. We use the ikea app to control our lights and blinds and to occasionally set up some timers. We appreciate that it only works with the app while your on your home wifi. It reduces the hacking potential. I gather not everyone sees it as a positive feature, but it also means that you can control your system even if your internet is down as it’s not using the cloud to control it, you only need your wifi to be operational.
