Mindfulness means noticing and paying attention to what is going on in the present moment, without passing judgment on it. Mindfulness has been shown to be effective for reducing stress, improving emotional balance, increasing self-awareness, helping with anxiety and depression, and coping more effectively with chronic pain.

Mindfulness Coach 2.0 was developed to help Veterans, Service members, and others learn how to practice mindfulness. The app provides a gradual, self-guided training program designed to help you understand and adopt a simple mindfulness practice. Mindfulness Coach also offers a library of information about mindfulness (for example “What is Mindfulness?”, “How to Anchor Your Attention”), 12 audio-guided mindfulness exercises and a growing catalog of additional exercises available for free download, goal-setting and tracking, a mindfulness mastery assessment to help you track your progress over time, customizable reminders, and access to other support and crisis resources. Mindfulness Coach is free, doesn’t take or share any of your personal information, and doesn’t require add-on purchases.

So much talking!

I appreciate a free app that doesn’t share my data, rare these days. But the format is intensely annoying. The narrator’s voice is flat, nasal and grates on you and she talks SO much throughout the practice that you’re fighting to focus on whatever you’re being told to focus on. I took part in a study that involved doing 2 practices a day for 6 weeks and I would dread it. I found I was able to focus far better at the beginning of the 6 weeks - by the end I was predicting what she was going to say next, like waiting for fingernails to scrape down a chalkboard.

Small differences

I started using this mindfulness app at a difficult time and wasn’t sure it would help me. I’ve practiced for a few weeks now and actually started to notice small differences in myself and how I feel. That surprised me and I really want to continue. Thank you for bringing mindfulness together in this app. It's perfectly straightforward to use and the guidance is always given with kindness.

I have been trying to be more mindful as an adult, as I used to find it easy to be in the moment and I’d like to get back to that mindset. This app, so far seems good. I admit I’ve only done the first level (there’s 14 I think) but the level I did was so good. First there’s short paragraphs on mindfulness and how to do it and how it could help. Then there’s info about the type of mindfulness practice that level was about (in this case sitting) then there was the actual exercise. The video that plays gives an option wether to have an introduction, I clicked yes because I’m new. A lady with very relaxing voice talked me through getting into the mindful mindset and then after a minute or so of her guidance, the video goes quiet for 1 minute. You can pick the length of the session and I picked 1 minute. You can also pick the sound that plays at the end of the session and these bells chimed after a minute that gently brought me out of the exercise. I then had the option to replay it if I wanted but I didn’t. You can set daily reminders to set aside mindfulness time and monthly reminders to check your progress and goals. Apologies for such a long review, I have tried many mindful apps and this is the best I have tried, so far, based on just one exercise experience. If you want to practise mindfulness, I would highly recommend this, especially because it’s free so you don’t really have anything to lose. I find it impressive as a rank beginner with no experience, so I can’t say how good you’d find it if you already practise mindfulness at a higher level, but again, it’s free. 10/10

I cannot comment on the efficacy of the app itself, for technical reasons. However, the prompt and personal response from the developers made me feel valued and cared for. They read my feedback and took time to discuss it with me, with humility and understanding. It's surprisingly rare to connect with developers (or any organisation) at a human level and I'm grateful for the excellent customer support. They turned a problem into a positive experience and that speaks volumes about the app's authenticity and good intentions.

I love this app. So much so that I’m actually taking the time to write my first ever app review. Learning to be mindful has transformed how I deal with negative or intrusive thoughts, anxiety, as well as optimizing my own relaxation time. This app was recommended to me, and I in turn have recommended it to others. To the developers and contributors, thank you.
