videos are playing properly on phone when i lock my screen it pauses the video and i need to press resume on the lock home screen to signal i want to continue which is a bit annoying and it does not have like/dislike or even a comment section which makes me wonder how it will know what i like and what to recommend me also will i just need to go to youtube to see what others are saying because that removes the purpose of the application i have only watched 1 video but so far there quite a few missing features.
EDIT: i have watched a few other videos and it became quite apparent that with weaker internet the application becomes a nightmare. i had to press pause and play multiple times just to get something working and then i noticed that there is also no resolution setting which means that what ever resolution the video was uploaded with is the one you get which is very bad for when travelling and using cellular data. also i found out that in the settings there was an option to disable the playback pausing when locking the screen which is good. at this stage this application is absolutely not worth it and costs the same if not more than a youtube premium subscription. i have canceled the renewal of my subscription and don't think i will be coming back.
Does not recognize subscription
I paid for Nebula on my laptop. It works perfect online but the iOS app won't recognize my subscription, not allowing me to watch content I paid for. Support told me to wait and did not get back to me - it's been a week and they also ignored one of my follow up emails.
I love the concept of Nebula and it's premise but at this point it's just a service that ignores subscribers on support without working iOS app.
I'm willing to update this review if my issue gets resolved once but I'm not hopeful.
Keep updated!
Love it!
Full of easily digestable but wide ranging info. Sometimes I am getting the news from here. I generally watch videos easier than I would read 30-40 pages.
Excellent content, app is silk.
Buttery smooth, high quality streaming, low resource usage.
Great Content, Difficult Platform
I love the concept of Nebula as a service, I enjoy the output of most of the creators and think the exclusive content on offer is very worthwhile. I want to love Nebula as a platform that empowers its creators and can give the audience more, but the issues I’ve run into with the app have made it difficult to consistently enjoy. The primary source of my issues has been with the podcast feature of the app, as I will often be listening to a podcast before it stops for a couple of minutes for seemingly no reason. Even me closing and reopening the app won’t get the podcast going again which ends up just causing me to use another app for podcasts while I drive or work. Sometimes I’ll download podcast episodes since I do a lot of traveling, only for me to open the app before my flight to find out all of my downloads have disappeared (despite me making sure they were downloaded the night before). The inconsistency with the podcast functions has been frustrating to say the least, as it has been easier to just listen to the content elsewhere than continue to engage with an app I desperately want to enjoy using.
Like My Favorite Creators but In Video Ads Stink and App Needs Work
Good content, but the whole reason I signed up was to avoid ads, yet more and more creators are including in video advertisements.
Also the app needs work to make it smoother. Biggest examples would be queueing videos and playlists.
Excellent media platform
Curated educational and cultural content. Your favorite creators in one place. Beats YouTube every day.
Amazing way to support my favorite creators!
Nebula is the only streaming platform I pay for, and I love it! The creators on here are excellently curated, and I can click on pretty much any video and watch it all the way through. I also love how this platform also focuses on having queer, PoC, and other diverse voices, allowing them to create content that wouldn't be possible on something like YouTube. And there are so many creators I already watch on here, like Tale Foundry, Jessie Gender, Big Joel, Bright Sun Films, Kat Blaque, Hbomberguy, and surprisingly enough, Todd in the Shadows?
If you see a creator you follow on here and want to support them, I 100% urge you to subscribe. The rest of the content, even from the people you don't know, is sure to be just as good.
Horrible app
With the focus being on selling more subscription and making Nebula available on more platforms, this app is completely neglected and is a better YouTube Premium advocate than anyone.
First of all, you can download videos for offline viewing, which is great, right? Well, guess what? The app often loses the downloaded content for no reason at all and you can literally see the downloaded videos just suddenly disappear right before your eyes when you need them the most.
Second, the TV app is also terrible. After you have scrolled down on a creator's video feed, what do you expect when you hit the back button? It should be the previous page. But not this app. It scrolls back up instead as "back" means undo.
Finally, the UI/UX is simply messy and very unfriendly. There's no way to hide videos from a channel from being recommended. There's no good way to explore creators or videos similar to what you like. The server is extremely slow and it often hangs and doesn't load quickly (it's not the connection).
Anyway, this app makes me wanna use YouTube Premium more than anything else.
I support my creators
I have watched most of the creators in this platform for years before Nebula. Allowing them to have some more freedom and produce what they want outside of YouTube’s circle is a cause I support. Keep up the great work over there
