I am having such a good time using this app - the design is clear and clean, and reflecting on my happier times when having a bad day is genuinely helping my mental health. I have a few suggestions to improve the app further, which would make it perfect! 1. Be able to take a photo directly from within the app - at times I want to record a story but I haven't taken a photo yet. This means going out of the app and to the camera separately, and when I return sometimes my story has disappeared. 2. Be able to customise the daily "influences" - adding a particular project or area to focus on would be helpful. 3. I'd love to be able to attach a link to a song from Spotify which relates to the day, this is something I've been recording for a long time and this would speed it up so much. 4. Long-term feature, but maybe a weather indicator on the memory page gathered from the location data inputted? It would add a little more context to the past stories? 5. Long-term again, but perhaps add some customisability to the front page - I love having the quote there, but maybe allow users to add a random nature image from Unsplash, or some additional things to be shown when you open the app. The last 2 points aren't really essential, just things I'd like to see! Love the app though!
This app joins a very crowded journaling app scene. The COVID-19 pandemic has made many people introspective. However, many of the available apps are bloated, use their own buggy sync servers and have expensive subscription schemes. Punkt is different. It has a simple, clean and intuitive interface. There’s no functionality that you think, “impressive!” But in real life really will never use. You add a sentence, paragraph or more to your entry. Select the thing which has had the biggest influence on your journal entry, add a location and add a photo. Simple. If I could improve the app I would add the ability to attach audio recordings. The sound of your kids laughing, singing happy birthday at their party or the sound of birds singing are all excellent memory items to add to journal entries. Multiple photos in a single entry would be great too. Being able to see a full frame photo from an entry would be nice instead of the Instagram Story cropped portrait currently used. This app has a very modest annual subscription model of around £7/year. However you can pay a one off £13.99 to have lifetime access. For me this was the perfect option. Finally - sync and backup. Many apps use their own sync servers which opens up possible data loss and privacy. This app uses your iCloud storage. That’s made and run by Apple, it’s protected by your Apple ID with 2FA and you have great reliability. Overall, this app has become a firm favourite and has taken the place of others.
So Punkt is pretty cool... it’s simple and clean (Clean design is where it’s at!), only a few things need to change: 1. When you are writing today’s story, if you swipe down you will lose the story. I often swipe down to get rid of the keyboard - so this is a small bug bear. Either remove the ability to swipe down on a story, or have it minimise (like the Apple mail app). 2. I would like the ability to add more, or change the default “what was the reason” selections. 3. “Did you capture some moments?” - it would be good to be able to take a photo from here instead of just browsing photos 4. More reminders / alerts - 1 reminder a day to add to the journal is not ideal, a custom number would be better, or even morning/evening. Other than these very small bug bears, Punkt is real nice!
I downloaded this after reading about it at 9to5mac. I was intrigued by the clean design, the focus on the most memorable part of your day and the idea of being able to look back at certain places and emotions. It’s early days in my use but I am enjoying it so far. I’ve been a long-term user of Day One and I’ve fallen out of the habit of using it daily due in LFT I think to the significant bloat in features that I feel like I have to make use of with each entry. I have made a suggestion to have custom “reasons” added (as I thought it would be nice to track my mood based on weather too) and I received a direct response within a few hours which was a nice surprise. I’m pleased to see, linked from the app’s website, that an iPad and Mac Catalyst app is on the agenda too. I’ve already purchased a subscription. All the best with developing your ideas, I’m looking forward to seeing what you make of this idea.
This app is a breeze to setup and use. No accounts to create, no third party sync service, no expensive annual subscription. It’s stylish and simple and allows me to add a few sentences to summarise the day, set my mood, location and picture. Reminds me each day to add an entry too. Great. I look forward to future updates.
