## UK Immigration Description
The UK Immigration: ID Check app lets you confirm your identity online when:
•	applying for a visa
•	updating your personal details on your UKVI account
•	setting up access to your online immigration status (eVisa)


Before you start

You must follow the steps in the online application form, account update or eVisa form before using the app.

You will need to be in a well-lit area, so you can take a good quality photograph of yourself.

You need to use:
• an iPhone 8 or newer
• iOS 16 or later


If you are applying for a visa

If you use this app when you apply for a visa, you will not have to attend an appointment to confirm your identity.

You can use this app if you are:
•	an EU, European Economic Area (EEA) or Swiss citizen
•	a British national (overseas) visa (BNO) applicant with a BNO or Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) passport
•	a graduate visa applicant with a UK biometric residence permit (BRP)

You will need either:
•	a passport that has a chip (also called a ‘biometric passport’)
•	a biometric residence permit (BRP)

If you’re applying for a graduate visa and are not from the EU, European Economic Area (EEA) or a Swiss citizen, you must use your BRP.

If you use a BRP, it must not have expired more than 18 months ago.


If you are setting up access to your eVisa 
 
You will need either a biometric residence permit (BRP) or a passport.
 
If you use a BRP, it must not have expired more than 18 months ago. 
 

If you are updating the personal details on your UKVI account
 
You will need a passport or other identity document with your new details. Your document must have a biometric chip.


What happens next

The app only helps confirm your identity. You must still complete the rest of your application. We will tell you how to do this when you finish using the app.

The app is safe and secure. Your personal information will not be stored in the app or on the phone when you finish using it.

I have wasted more time trying to use this app than I did applying for my initial visa and my permanent UK residence. It is the worst and I can’t believe it’s the only option the UK government has come up with. And I know I’m not the only person who the app doesn’t work for!

The UK hates immigrants and the proof is this app. We have to use it, but it’s completely useless. FOR NFC CHIP: My husband was able to get it quickly when he said he opened to the first page (I used US passport) and scanned NOT the inside of the cover, but the plastic page. Took him about a minute after my futile attempts for over half an hour. I have iPhone 15 Pro.

Rated one star because of how long it took to actually get chip scan working, after extensive research. The directions in the app are not accurate considering how many people are having issues with it as well.

There‘s a lot of doom and gloom in these reviews and I don‘t want to discount everyone‘s bad experiences but do I wanna balance them out with mine if it can lessen your anyiety about this process. ### **--- "Frustrating but finally got it to work!"
I was ready to give up on the scan BRP/passport chip function after *many* failed attempts - & the awful reviews convincing me it just doesn’t work (on iPhones at least). But have *finally* managed to get it to scan by placing the phone directly on my BRP & keeping it steady (rather than moving it around as the app instructs). I lined it up with the top of the phone. Good luck to all of you struggling! Hopefully it will work eventually!
