FastMail the service is absolutely fantastic and rock solid! But the app is super buggy. Half the time when I tap on a notification (or even just reopen the app) the app shows either a blank screen or just sits there with the loading spinner going around forever. I don’t know if this is the app’s issue or some WebKit bug where network traffic just stops sometimes, but either way it’s a very frustrating experience. If this is some WebKit networking issue, for crying out loud, investigate it with Apple or contact one of the WebKit team directly about it (they’re all very active on Mastodon!).
Love the service, but the app experience is poor
I love fastmail for its aliases, but recently the app is become increasingly buggy.
Integration with 1password is useless, when you need to put a password in and select the password from 1password nothing happens, you can't even copy and paste a password into the field, the same is true for trying to select a two factor authentication code. In the last few weeks I have to issue a new app password to my Microsoft email accounts. When you delete or open a email the notification badges don't change so I'm constantly see the amount of "unread" notifications going up. For a paid service support for the app should improved.
Fastmail app email composition for the iPad is poor quality
Fastmail app email composition for the iPad
I've been a loyal customer of Fastmail since Day Zero, buying accounts for all four members of my then young family. The Fastmail email service offers many excellent options. Unfortunately, the poor quality Fastmail app for iPadOS lets the show down badly. I've tried endlessly to alert Fastmail customer support to the issues – alas, to no avail. Let's see if this direct appeal to the app developers makes any difference.
I need to use the Fastmail app on my iPad to send emails using one of my dozen Fastmail email address aliases.
I can't send email using Apple Mail for the iPad using a Fastmail alias
Ergo, I must use the Fastmail app for this
My fundamental problem is that the Fastmail app for the iPad just doesn't work properly in conjunction with Apple Mail for the iPad, Apple Notes for the iPad, Apple Pages for the iPad
Furthermore, on my iPad, I can't choose the email font type or font size in the Fastmail email composition part of the Fastmail app
This is a real deal breaker. When we send professional emails with formal content to firms and other entities, then we need to use a formal, business font eg Times Roman.
If the email content is more informal, eg to friends or family, then the email should be formatted in a less formal font, eg a sans-serif font such as Arial or Calibri
For inbody quoted text, a monospaced font, eg Courier works well
Font size in the Fastmail app email composition screen also must be an option
Fastmail must test properly & troubleshoot the Fastmail app for the iPad much more thoroughly to ensure compatibility with the above Apple apps for the iPad
Fix the app already!
This is my second review. Still 1 stars, would give it negative stars if I could. I pay $55 USD every 12 months for Fastmail and for that I get a supremely subpar mobile app that does not load when I tap on my email notifications. If Fastmail can’t do basic app development how the heck can I trust them with my private information?!
I’m migrating to a competing service, I recommend anyone reading this look elsewhere for an email provider.
App freezes with a blank screen
From time to time I would receive an email but when opened the app it appeared to be stuck with blank screen. I would have to swipe the app off to reload it. Then it would work fine for a few hours but then the whole cycle would repeat.
Also agree with the review where users describe the app as more web interface oriented then fully standalone app.
Great service, average app
I love FastMail and have been a happy customer for years. However, the app does not feel at home on iOS. It’s functional and fast, but it doesn’t integrate with other system features like your contacts, and it’s weird to have tabs front and centre for Notes or Calendar in the app, when I don’t use those parts of FastMail. The UI for moving messages breaks in weird ways, and it just overall feels more like using a slightly optimised version of the website than an actual on-device app.
App a poor experience versus Fastmail itself
I love Fastmail and the web UI, but some months I have to force close the app at least one in two opens because it just blank screens, no matter how many reboots and reinstalls I do.
Ios 17 issue
Just started on ios 17- 1 in 2 times the app opens to a blank screen.
Great service let down by a poor app
Love Fastmail. Great handling of spam, masked emails and loads of other features. But it is undermined by having such a poor app. It constantly locks up and has to be force closed. It’s also… kinda ugly. It takes multiple taps to navigate about, and has a really odd hierarchy. Is it a web app jammed into a container? It feels like that, and it’s not great. Seriously considering shifting email providers tbh.
Terrible
Sad excuse for an email app. May as well load it in the browser. Reverting back to Mail app.
