Frustrating app
Way too many of the articles it shows are behind paywalls. There is no way to adjust this. Also loaded with ads and popups. It's been getting worse.... becoming unusable.

This has been going on for a while. Constantly crashes and shows “Unable to load content” error message.
When are you guys going to fix your own app??? It’s been doing this for years in spite of updates. I’ll be in the middle of an article and it will just suddenly display a message saying, “There was an arrow displaying this content,” for no reason whatsoever! It’s so frustrating!
Where is the dark mode for iOS?
The "For You" tab is seeded with topics from my YouTube watch history, which is ABSOLUTELY NOT what anyone wants from a news app. And after a literal decade of feed tuning, my "Headlines" tab is a still nonstop stream of NFL news. I hate football. I've blocked HUNDREDS of NFL news sources, but more appear every time I load the headlines. If you're lucky, you get about 5-10 real news headlines, but the rest is total garbage.
Pros: 1)you can add topics that you’re interested in and they will show up in one of the tabs. 2)You can choose to unfollow sources or topics and their articles no longer show up in the feed. Cons: 1)when you open the app, you are given political headline stories. You can’t adjust the home page or the headlines to topics you’re actually interested in. 2)lots of sketchy news sources always popping up like “South China Post”. Google could at least make an attempt to vet sources. You can unfollow them but others pop up in your feed. 3)they insert random topics in your feed for some reason. I’m reading articles about cars and they suggest Yoga as a topic I might interested in. I’ll be reading articles about tv shows and Google News suggests Camping articles.
In theory a great app that presents news from multiple sources, but click on the wrong story and you get a site that locks up the whole Google news app if you don’t sign up for something.
“Show less like this” option functionality is nearly nonexistent - not only will it keep showing things like that, it will show you that very thing again the next time the articles refresh. Plus, trying to read articles on several sites results in error messages, likely based on the built-in browser’s inability to handle advertising pop-ups from those sites.
App will not exist on your phone without auto syncing to everything google. The app is unusable without being logged in. Just more data farming from google. Deleting and using something else.
Full of ads and clickbait. News is not relevant and localized to areas I don’t live in.
