With the HSL app you can buy tickets for Helsinki region public transport, find the best routes and get targeted traffic information. In the HSL app you will find e.g. single, day and season tickets for both adults and children. Bus, train, metro, tram and ferry – all with the same app. You can pay easily e.g. with a payment card.
In addition to tickets, there is also a journey planner in the HSL app. Journey planner tells you e.g. the best route and the ticket, which is needed for the route. In the HSL app, you can also see up-to-date transport information for the areas and lines you have selected.
HSL app does not support Siri shortcuts.
Will not send me a confirmation code - cannot purchase anything on app
Let me start by saying this app is still very helpful for finding routes between places, even if it does not let me buy any actual tickets.
My complaint and reason for 1-star review of this app is that it can never send me a confirmation code to confirm my phone number. I am coming to Finland from America, and have an international cell plan that lets me receive calls and texts to my American phone number in Finland. However, when I am trying to confirm my cell phone number in the HSL app, the confirmation code never reaches my phone, despite my phone number being entered correctly and it easily receiving confirmation codes from other apps in Finland. Thinking it was because of my American number, I purchased a pre-paid SIM card with a Finnish number and tried it again, with still no confirmation text. This is extremely frustrating, as it means I cash never purchase tickets in the app and always have to look for an R-Kiosk. I hope this issue with the app gets fixed quickly.
Useless if you’re from out of the country
They block all international IP addresses, they do not send SMS to non-finnish numbers, they do not accept non-finnish credit cards. Even “Delete my account” only works if you are finnish and authorize it with your finnish id.
Why are you even offering the app on international app stores???
Inconsistent App
When the app works on non-Finnish phones it’s great. But lately the app doesn’t work only if I delete and re-download it. Which is a pain since I don’t have the strong ID to use our Finnish debit card. I have to use my spouses strong ID / which means I need him available to approve it.
It works when it works, but is inconsistent for this tourist.
When I was here in September of 2023, the app worked brilliantly. When I got off the plane two days ago, perfect. Now, that I’m settled in Helsinki I’m asked to login and confirm my phone number every time I open the app and it won’t send a confirmation code to my US number. So the app is completely dead for me. I have to go buy cards. Bummer.
Can't use app
I am not getting the SMS code to create an account. I have a US phone number.
Crash and constant malfunction
Unable to create an account, or login with the existing phone number, buy ticket screen show the loading spinner forever, adding credit card as payment method crashes. How bad can an app be?

Visiting Helsinki lately that application really helped me finding the best transportation options.
As a software developer myself I will use it to show customers what a really well thought application should be.
This one reaches a 10/10 in my scale. It's prefect and easy to use. End users were in mind when they developed it, not engineers.

Beyond frustrating
Cannot buy a ticket because the app is unable to verify my phone number. Why does it need to do this? Why can’t an email be sufficient? The app wants to verify the phone using an SMS code, but I never get a code. Only a message saying it could not send a code. 🤨
WON’T WORK WITH US PHONE NUMBERS
If your phone number is US (+1), it fails to send the verification code. Because phone verification is required to buy tickets, this means that ppl with US phone numbers just can’t buy tickets. Pretty big technical fail.
