Memrise: Speak a new language

Hi, I’ve been learning on this app with the premium version for the past few years and find it really great, however, there are some things that have been really bugging me. 1) The offline option being taken away. I always enjoyed learning on the way either in the car or during my flight. This is many times just not possible anymore, because I have to be online and I’ve noticed my progress getting much slower because of it. 2) When I started using the app for learning chinese there used to be really helpfull grammar lessons. I really liked these as it allowed me to create at least simple sentances and feel like I know what I’m doing. Now, I know the vocabulary but that’s about it. It made me feel far less confident when speaking, which is just a shame. 3) A big problem that I’ve been having when learning chinese is that when I feel like I forgot a word and I want to come back to it, the app only shows the english translation and either the pronounciation in chinese OR how its actually written. If I want to know both, I either have to endlessly review until this word pops up or use another app. Overall this app helped me a lot with my language journay and these are just some things that have been bothering me. I can see how much progress has been done with the app over the years and I am looking forward to seeing what it will bring in the future.

The app is bugged. I only get the screen about the announcement of ending support for community courses and button that opens a website to “Learn more”.

Memrise used to be great app, I paid for the full version to be able to download it to practiser offline. After community courses were decommissioned, this app is not very useful for me anymore. I used to recommend it to everyone learning any language, unfortunately that's not the case anymore.

Great example of what not to do witn an app

Honestly, I loved old version of this app where was grammar and exercises gor that. Now this app is totally useless for me. Please return grammar to your app (minimum to paid version).

I am glad the reviews are back, that is a really important feature for me. Not happy that it is hard to track my overall progress and I really miss offline learning now. Sometimes there is issue with the internet or the Memrise servers or anything along the way and it is not fun to do 5 minute learning for over 30 minutes because something is not loading properly. It is even worse because the offline functionality worked just fine last year.

I dont know what to say, for some reason i bought the premium version for a year and it was much worse than i expected. Its just word and phrase learning using flashcards, they dont teach you any grammar, no actual verbs. I guess for vocabulary its fine, but for having actual conversation its terrible, i dont even know all persons (I, you, he/she …) and have no idea how the verbs should end. Thats just it. Maybe someone will find use for the base version, considering its allmost the same as the payed one, but the latter is just not worth it. And i have been using it for a couple of months now

Due to the cancellation of the community courses in app, I have to switch to another app. Memrise, please consider changing and returning the community courses in the app. In web browser it is very uncomfortable. :-(

The best app for foreing language words learning... until they decided to remove the community courses in February-March 2024. The Memrise website is really not as good as app for learning and I won’t continue with my subscription when the current one ends in a month.
