What other learners are saying
"I've been using Memrise for about two years, studying European Portuguese. I have the paid version - it's a solid learning tool, and it has been my primary resource ever since got it. I find the Learn with Locals feature to be especially useful, more so as my Portuguese improves. My wife and I spent a couple of weeks in Portugal a few months ago, and we were able to handle all of our transactions - stores, restaurants, markets, car rental, etc!" - Voloúre

Memrise Reviews

What happened to this app??

Adamjcr on

Norway

I used to love this app, used it a ton years ago for all sorts of topics. A shame to see that they have reduced it to what seems to be just a language learning app, removing the community made decks etc. What an absolutely terrible business decision.

Horrible User Experience after the recent upgrades

I’ve lost patience trying to learn with this app now, and it used to be my favorite. Bye.

Lær deg engelsk on

Norway

Best app for Korean

oahppi on

Norway

I use the Swedish version for learning Korean. For quite a while. + Spaced repetition. You learn easier. + You learn what they are actually saying and not only what it means in your native language. It is very handy when learning a new language. This is an issue lacking in many other apps. +You watch and hear authentic videos of people saying sentences as well as hear a standard pronunciation. And you can listen to the videos repeatedly. + You can get a clue, or several, if you totally forgot when you’re writing an answer. + It’s also handy, for Hangul, that they put the letters in blocks to choose from. + You can now choose scenarios eg. special topics to learn or beginner’s level + There is now a weekly plan what you’re supposed to do. + The Mem bot beta has improved (or is it my level of Korean?) and I have managed to answer its questions. I found it more easy to answer by speaking, letting the bot convert it into text, rather than writing. It works well for me with appr. 1200 or perhaps more basic words of Korean. - The words could have a larger space between, since small fonts are difficult to read on mobiles. - Yet to figure out the colors of lessons, it is not intuitive. - There are translation issues in the Swedish-Korean version. In the app e.g. all headings are in another language, Norwegian. -Membot freezes a lot can’t get text line audio in the dialogue - Cumbersome to give feedback. Hence the quality will never improve. I’ve tried to give feedback (see above) but I cannot see any improvements, so I guess I did that in vain? All in all. I still find it the best app for me for Korean. And I have tried a lot of them. I use this and Drops.

No longer possible to add new community-made courses to app

Spartan EXR on

Norway

Since memrise wants you to use their official courses and AI chatbot, they have now just disabled adding community courses to the app. Greedy.

Fun app

But how am I supposed to spell the words when you consistently give me completely different letters than the ones I need? (Mandarin Chinese) Example: please spell the word “bu” using the following letters “w,t,y,o,h,l,n,m” 🤔 Also, I managed to write «wo3» on one, but was told it was incorrect bur the correct answer was also «wo3» 🤦 Edit: why should I bother spending all this time to report it? I already reported it here… I looked in the app, but then I need to scroll past a number of unnecessary suggestions only to find the reporting takes me to a web page outside of the app. No thank you, I will delete the app and you can troubleshoot yourselves if you really are interested.
