The Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary is the world’s bestselling advanced-level dictionary for learners of English. It has helped millions of learners to develop their English skills for work and study, and leads the way to more confident, successful communication in English. It contains over 86,000 words, 95,000 phrases, 112,000 meanings and 237,000 examples, all using clear and simple language to help non-native speakers learn more easily.
The Oxford Collocations Dictionary shows you which words work together and helps you express your ideas naturally and convincingly. It is especially useful for writing essays or preparing for exams in English. For example, which adjectives can you use to describe ‘scenery’? Which verbs can you use with ‘challenge’?
The Oxford Learner’s Thesaurus is a dictionary of synonyms that helps you to understand the differences between similar words, and to find the right words to say exactly what you mean. For example, is there a better word than ‘nice’? What is the difference between ‘easy’ and ‘simple’? What is a more formal synonym of ‘choice’?

„Restore” option does not work.
A few years ago, I purchased OALD8 for around £30 or £40, which offered lifetime access as yearly subscriptions didn't exist back then. Recently, without any prior notice, Oxford University Press deactivated the app and has not allowed its restoration. It’s incredibly difficult to reach the department responsible for app issues, and I doubt it even exists. I feel cheated.
Academic Worthy
This dictionary appears to be academic worthy, jam packed with features. I think my concerns are primarily if purchased on mobile iOS could it also be used on Mac OS and vice-versa simultaneously. Secondly, hope any bugs have been sorted out by now. Would it be possible to get an answer to my initial question, please? Very happy to change my star rating, if need be.
You are OUP! World Leading, supposedly!
I implore you: sort out this tangle of inadequacy!
As an individual who influences with my written work, reference books & resources are the figurative bread & butter I crave.
I’m willing to outlay substantial coin on the reference works you publish. I will not, however, not - proffer a penny more for these sub-standard… ‘things’ you are offering here! No, Sir/Madam, not I!
There is much work to be done in the current scenario, you are the purveyors of digital dollop at the moment and it’s simply not good enough! Would you really expect the Dean to sign off on these?
When an institution such as Oxford, & all that it stands for is so very inadequately represented it’s… embarrassing and upsetting! I want to make you clearly aware, this simply will not do, old chap, nay!
I hold the whole Oxford Icon in the highest of regards, therefore; be good enough to bring these digital products up to standard, nay, in fact; exceed the normal standards set by everyone else, and supersede them with the pure excellence the Heritage deserves.
We are the human race, excellence in reference books is simply a must. Second rate doo doo is quite unapologetically unacceptable - understood? You bloomin well get a move on and sort it out, matey!
I’ll look forward to a complimentary collection (digitally, of course) of this suite of reference tools for taking the time to (so eloquently) bring this to your attention. Not a minute too soon, by the looks of it!
Greedy
I bought the older version subscription and that app no longer supported. Every year they introduce a new app and charge for it without considering the people who bought the older Apps. Consider twice before you buy it.
Too expensive. Better use web free version

App shows much better stability now.
The content of the dictionary is impeccable and the app, after the recent improvements, is stable. Highly recommendable, reasonably priced, easy to use.
Crushes and setting issue (iPad/iPhone)
Opening the app after a while being in the background ends up in a crash.
I’ve got American pronunciation turned off. Every time when I use Full text search to open an item the Hide American English speaker symbols option is ignored. I can see both speaker icons.
Yes. I reinstalled the app million times and it didn’t help.
Keeps crashing, please help!
Hello. As a foreigner who’s mother tongue is Spanish, I’ve tried most dictionaries by now. This one is useful as it presents a very practical way of using the language. Unfortunately, the app’s interphase is not brilliant and it keeps crashing. I hope Oxford polishes these issues soon and it’s payed as you go, which makes updates and bug fixes mandatory.
Thank you for solving the technical issue
I wrote a review about the technical failure to log in the app, then it has been perfectly solved. Thank you! The app is running smoothly now.
Unfairly priced
Subscription based dictionary service at £9 per year or £30 per four years is highly unfair
