Day One Journal Reviews

Essential

I have a brain injury which gives me short term memory loss. I heavily rely on the calendar app to remind me to do things. But even after the things are done I forget about them. So at the end of the day I refer to the calendar to input everything I did that day. Then weeks, months or even years later I refer to Day One as a reminder for what has happened in my life. Fantastic and in my case essential app!

Used to be Very therapeutic

I’ve been using this app for many years as a journal, I don’t like expressing myself with people so this app allows me express myself in a constructive and healthy way. I also use this app to mark special occasions, like birthdays and holidays, and being able to include photos is awesome. It would be even better if it allowed more then one photo per entry ***this app now takes WEEKS sometimes months to update, I haven’t been able to access it now for at least a month, the last time it needed updates it was several months before it would finish and I could make entries again, I’m looking for a new app because this is useless***

Using for close to 10 years now

I don’t think I have used any app longer than this one. My journal habit has come and go, but it has been more meaningful and consistent for the last 250 days, and DayOne helps me out by enabling me to make my own template, or them just suggesting me with prompt. And I use DayOne for a different purpose than the new native journal iOS. Day one is really simple and effective, I also even use it to set my daily priorities, it’s not a management tool but helps you get your focus in line.

Highly recommend

I have been using the Day One journal for almost 2 years now, and I must say it’s an excellent diary/journal, it has been there for me in so many ways possible ❤️ I highly recommend this app, I love the daily prompts, so when you get stuck, you can always sign up for the daily prompts that you can set to whatever day you want them to notify you on your phone to remind you to fill out your journal, the Day One journal is and will always be my number one best purchase ❤️

Free version is good

My needs are basic- mainly to make journal entries whenever I choose to, with light formatting capabilities, and the ability to insert pictures. Now the free app only allows you to insert one picture per journal entry, but that’ll do for what I need, since I rarely insert pictures anyway. It meets all my requirements, I’ve never had glitches or issues of any kind with the app. I’m very happy with it. It has a number of features in the free version that I don’t even use which goes to show how useful it is as an app.

Advanced journaling app

Day one is one of the most advanced and customizable journaling apps I’ve trialled on the market. It also happens to come at a fairly priced yearly subscription price of $47 Cdn, compared to other apps that are over $100. Day one does offer a free version off the app, and a hefty one month free trial when you sign up for a subscription. The free trial period is generous in my opinion and I think that would work in their favour so that users can truly test out all that the app has to offer before deciding to purchase. One of the cooler things about Day One is the ability to send journal entries via SMS or email. You can also set up SMS reminders to journal and your reply to that text will go directly into your journal. Same goes for emails, you can forward emails from your inbox straight to your journal. These features are unique to this app and are a quick and convenient way to capture thoughts. Day One also offers the ability to set up multiple journals (with a subscription, 1 journal in free mode), get daily journaling prompts and provides various templates for use. Although Day One offers various templates for reflections, gratitude, check ins, goals, spiritual, travel, creativity, etc…., I find them to be less contemplative and introspective than what I’ve seen from other journaling apps. The positive of this is that this app allows you to take your journaling wherever you want to go with it. Day One also allows the ability for you to create your own templates, which is a unique feature I’ve not seen before. Although the editing tools are not abundant for creating your own templates, they do include basics like creating lists, checklists, different headings, quotes and the ability to set reminders, media and tags. It would be valuable to have additional settings and tools for creating templates, but the necessary tools are there if you are a creative person and want to customize the way you’re journaling. Day One is less guided journal and more run free with your creativity. Day One also includes multiple integrations including location history, apple health, instagram and IFTTT. When integrating with instagram for instance, all your content will be imported into a journal including photos, videos, descriptions and hashtags. These integrations could pose valuable to some people, but for me, for a journaling app I don’t find these integrations completely necessary. Mind you, for those with IFTTT, this integration could allow for different conte

What’s with this new interface?

As a long time user, I can certainly agree with the other recent review, this is a step back. I like seeing the stats on main page, so I can just tap on “On This Day”. As well how do I now add a entry using the location history the day? I’ve been to a number of places today, how do I add those entries? Signed, Not happy.

New layout very disappointing

I am a long-time user and fan of this app. The new UI introduced this week is both aesthetically less appealing and functionally a step back. The stats that used to appear at the top of your timeline feed are now buried in a separate screen that makes no sense. With all the real estate now available in a separate page, my stats appear in a single line at the top of the screen and scroll off the right edge of the page. Ugly.

I have enjoyed writing my diary since 2014!

2018 Enjoying publishing printed journals now available In Canada. Day One is continuing to working well for me. Thank to Alan in Support staff for his help on a couple of occasions. Continue updating this fabulous app! I can't wait until I can publish books from my diary...here in Canada! 2017 ...... I continue to enjoy adding to my journal. Just returned from a memorable trip to Arizona, the memories continue in Day One! "......... It is a great way of keeping your memorable photos, vacations and local news. Pleased you can now keep the diary on the cloud as I had to save one vacation as a PDF as it filled my iPad mini! I did have the syncing problem but it has now cleared up... Thanks for fixing it! I continue to enjoy using the app and enjoy seeing what happen on the same day one and two years ago when I open DayOne. Enjoy adding in new memories each day to share with family and friends… also gives me chance to add historic items about family and places visited…. Keeps me busy!
