LogTen Pilot Logbook Reviews

Hero to Zero

I have been with LTP since 2006 and I am now leaving. Before subscription pricing came in, there was a major update every couple of years. There had to be, it was the only way of getting new money in. Now however, thanks to a very overpriced subscription model, there is a snail’s pace innovation and almost no improvement since subscription pricing came in. There is no big incentive to make the apps 'next big thing' if money is coming in anyway. After 17 years, there is STILL no real roster importer (preferring to leave it to third party apps) and STILL no interface with airline rosters. This really grates on me as even cheap or free log book apps can download flights from eMaestro or AIMS. This app professors to be a "professional pilots app" yet they seem to target the PPL end of the market and leave little 'professional' parts of the app to be desired. How can a cheap or free logbook easily log in to my airline interface and download my flights, yet this $120+ per year app can’t. They recently changed their data management from a locally hosted data file, on your own machine, to a service where they host my data file on their servers. I used to be able to back up my own data, I could manage my own file, I could upload my file to my own iCloud storage and also Dropbox, but now that has been removed. Why have they engineered all of this out?? My data isn’t my data anymore and my back up now solely relies on their servers and on them paying the bills and surviving as a company. Would you trust your logbook to someone else? Would you let a company hold your logbook data which is only yours as long as you pay? I wouldn’t mind so much if the sync service was reliable but it isn’t. Sometimes it can take a long while for all the apps to be up to date, and on a number of occasions their advice is to 'delete and reinstall' the app. Exceptionally frustrating when this also gets rid of your preferences etc. They also removed the ability to move around the menu icons at the bottom of the app. As an airline pilot I regularly go into the flights tab and also the people tab. Now, to go to people I have to click ‘logbook’ at the top, then click ‘people’ then do what I need then click ‘logbook’ then click ‘flights’. Ridiculous. I used to be able to simply have the flights tab and the people tab at the bottom. Instead, I now have Plan, Analyse, New Entry, Logbook and Account. Most of those buttons I NEVER use. Why would ‘Account’ be a tab at the bottom?? Are people requiri

Great customer support

I received some very good customer support form David the other day. He responded within a few hours and answered and addressed my problem. I also asked him how to collate my hours within a certain time frame and he provided me with the steps to achieve that as well as a short video for detailing further features on the app. I Highly recommend the app. Thanks again David for your great service!

Support Very Slow

I have spent days trying to Balance forward previous logbook hours. It’s not easy! Support have not replied for over two days and STILL awaiting a reply!!

Poor

Bas142 on

Very poor software update has app starting and crashing on each opening.

Latest version unusable

madaxemanuk on

Any app that REQUIRES a network connection to be able to launch is unusable, ESPECIALLY in aviation. If only I could revert to the previous version. :-/

Unforgivable bugs and UI decisions

So… was recommended this app and migrated over. Found the app relatively user friendly although there do seem to be some glaring omissions (logout button anyone?) In any case the problems started a few days ago when a CFI friend was having a look with the intention of maybe migrating over as well and he managed to change himself to PIC off ALL my flights where I was PIC - even though those flights were “locked” which supposedly prevents the data within from being changed. Then I had an issue whereby my iPhone would not sync with my iPad. All the entries were in my iPad with nothing shown in the iPhone. No problem - a recent update from LogTen along with an email saying that all devices must be updated for the newest sync feature to function. So all devices updated and when logging in on the iPad I then faced a screen saying the data is out of sync and must be redownloaded from the cloud. At this point I knew 100% what was about to happen. Clicked the button - the only button - the only option presented to you the user is to continue and… you guessed it - all my flights disappeared. So now my iPad and iPhone are perfectly in sync with nothing showing on either. Fortunately I had made a backup prior to all of this but…. You can’t use it. You must contact them. The design decisions made are beyond frustrating.

Excellent

Hey, wish I’d know about this when I started flying. Once you’ve inputted the data it’s an excellent App to track all your flight information and detail. Lots of analytics to cross reference and share with the CAA or flight examiner/instructor. First 50hrs is free… but worth the annual fee.

Too expensive

Sky_Spy on

Ridiculous that to get cloud synch between devices you have to pay Pro subscription which which is only needed by airline pilots who need to import their schedules.

Great tool, but…

TePrescott on

The ability to make customised reports is overly complicated. Also - it would be great to have the ability to create an automated export to a document so that things like resumes, etc are automatically updated.

Worth the price

I’ve had LogTen Pro for my iPad and iPhone for about two years. I find it easy to use, convenient, and the layouts are intuitive and clean and crisp. What I have found particularly useful is the ability to generate reports which convert into logbooks which are compliant in Europe (EASA and U.K. CAA). These can then be printed off, or sent by email as file attachments when requested by the airlines. It really is a great tool.
