Unexpected activation from misleading regional plan description
I brought a CN-JP-KR regional plan thinking it will only activate itself once I reach the destination countries.
However my plan activated itself before I even left my country. The support agent said despite the regional plan showing as CN-JP-KR, it was actually an APAC plan in the background so it activated early in my home country.
While they gave me a refund for what I paid in Nomad points, I lost the value of the welcome credit because Nomad’s policy doesn’t provide a refund for welcome credits. I was given a voucher for less than half of the welcome credit instead.
This is disappointing given I (the customer) couldn’t have known or been able to avoid this issue and thus suffered an unexpected and unavoidable loss.
Lesson for everyone else: don’t assume that the eSIM will only activate itself once it’s in any of the stated countries. It might activate itself in a country not listed in the plan itself.
Oahu, Hawai’i
Bought prior to leaving NZ. Was a much much cheaper option than utilising roaming on my NZ plan which would have cost $8 per day which worked out to over $160 NZ. Nomad was $22 USD (38NZD) for 20GB for 30 days. Brilliant. It was simple to install and activate. Good coverage and reception across Oahu. Utilised for email, What’s App, Messenger and Google. Google Maps was essential to us driving around. Gotta say I hardly used any of the data, probably due to being able to connect to the wi-fi when at ‘home-base’. In summary - it was a great buy and did everything I needed it to do. 5⭐️
Unsatisfactory
The customer service is super slow.
The plan I paid for did not work.
