Description

• Sculpting tools
Clay, flatten, smooth, mask and many other brushes will let you shape your creation.
You can also use the trim boolean cutting tool with lasso, rectangle and other shapes, for hardsurface purposes.
• Stroke customization
Falloff, alphas, tilings, pencil pressure and other stroke parameters can be customized.
You can save and load your tools preset as well.
• Painting tools
Vertex painting with color, roughness and metalness.
You can easily manage all your material presets as well.
• Layers
Record your sculpting and painting operations in separate layers for easier iteration during the creation process.
Both the sculpting and painting changes are recorded.
• Multiresolution sculpting
Go back and forth between multiple resolution of your mesh for a flexible workflow.
• Voxel remeshing
Remesh quickly your mesh to get a uniform level of detail.
It can be used to quickly sketch a rough shape at the beginning of the creation process.
• Dynamic topology
Refine locally your mesh under your brush to get an automatic level of detail.
You can even keep your layers, as they will be automatically updated!
• Decimate
Reduce the number of polygons by keeping as many details as possible.
• Face Group
Segment your mesh into subgroups with the face group tool.
• Automatic UV unwrap
The automatic UV unwrapper can use face groups to control the unwrapping process.
• Baking
You can transfer vertex data such as color, roughness, metalness and small scaled detail in to textures.
You can also do the opposite, transfering textures data into vertex data or layers.
• Primitive shape
Cylinder, torus, tube, lathe and other primitives can be used to quickly start new shapes from scratch.
• PBR rendering
Beautiful PBR rendering by default, with lighting and shadows.
You can always switch to matcap for a more standard shading for sculpting purposes.
• Post processing
Screen Space Reflection, Depth of Field, Ambient Occlusion, Tone mapping, etc
• Export and Import
Supported formats include glTF, OBJ, STL or PLY files.
• Interface
Easy-to-use interface, designed for mobile experience.
Customization is possible as well!
• Quad Remesher (separate in-app purchase only)
Remesh your object automatically with a quad dominant mesh that follows the mesh curvatures.
It supports guides, face groups and density painting.

Fantastic iPad sculpting app

SomeoneNamedCarlButNotReally on

This is coming from someone who has never written a review before: this app is amazing! I usually sculpt in zBrush on my computer, but I really wanted something that could work on the iPad. I bought this app (a few years back) and was pleasantly surprised with how much it could do. Well, I just updated it today and was amazed at how many more features the developers added. It is really fantastic. I love that the price is a cheap, one-time purchase and that the only in-app purchase is for the quad remesher extension (which I am seriously considering buying). So I’m writing this review as a thank-you to the dev team and to let anyone that wants a really solid option for sculpting on the go know: Nomad is great, I highly recommend it!

amazing but please add hair/fur and cloth sim

a lot of my workflow involves creating characters to be rigged and animated in blender, specifically that wear clothes and have fur/hair. it would be great if i could add those things locally in nomad so i don’t have to do it in blender, specifically fur and hair sim which would be amazing to be able to do locally with apple pencil. also i think it’d be beneficial to add a way to export as .blend files directly so it’s a little easier to work with in blender, i think a lot of people would really like that. but it’s amazing the way it is right now. the only bug is that sometimes it crashes during voxel remesh (not super high quality voxel remesh, like sometimes it crashes during small ones too) but otherwise it’s wonderful 👍 love the new remesh tools as well

Best alternative to industry standards

Does it compete with ZBrush? Sort of. What Nomad lacks in features it makes up for with ease of use and accessibility. Nomad is constantly being updated and easily worth your time and money to learn. Active developer on their forums and discord.

This is a great app for advanced creators and beginners too! I hope that if you are looking for a great way to create or just make art, you use this app. Again, it is AMAZING!!!

As a digital sculptor I love, love this app.

Professional Option

I have been using ZBrush professionally for well over a decade. Much like all software from "my time" it has become bloated because new features (not refinement) sells units. One could say the Z-planes for hard surface modeling make ZBrush necessary.... In Nomad, I just modify primitives then use smooth, flatten, pinch and planar to refine. This is also what I do in ZBrush because it lends itself better to design than technical layout. There were some slight growing pains getting my workflow down to intuition. It's not complicated, I just tended to click the wrong tab at times due to vague icons. That has passed. If you're serious about modeling, everything you need is here, capable, refined, stable and smooth. If you just want to click on value sliders to make cool stuff happen (I do it too. Not knocking it) you won't find much shallow functionality. Truly great software on the best platform for working with a stylus. What's not to love.

Needs more updates/features

If you don’t add more features zbrush will overthrow you on iPad and don’t make these features paid for that’s one of y’all strengths. If you used Zbrush you know how many features/tools they have and that’s what y’all are competing against. Your number one strength is NO subscription if you give your target audience as many tools as you Zbrush with no subscription you will stay on top. Id use free sculpting blender add-on’s as reference because I’m pretty sure Zbrush features are copyrighted but some blender add-on’s are not.

Suggestion.

I love this app very much, it’s easier than blender. But it would be really cool if you made a 3D animation/2D app too!
