The ultimate productivity tool

chrismear on

Yes, it has a learning curve, but the effort you put in will pay off a hundredfold. OmniFocus is the ultimate personal productivity system, supporting any workflow, not just “Getting Things Done”. It’s your outboard brain for things to do, ideation, and planning.

Not up to all the hype

Charliebenk on

What I want to know is why this app is always being hyped by Apple with promotional features always on the App Store, just what is the deal here, one thing is certain, Apple does not periodically use and properly engage with any of the apps it features, If an app was deemed good enough to be featured in the early days of the App Store over ten years ago, that’s it, it’s featured on the App Store forever, seemingly without regard for the apps ability right now to function correctly and without many long standing bugs as is the case with Omnifocus, that the app may not have been updated sometimes for years, or the app’s feature set versus other apps of the same type currently on the App Store are lacking, this is very obvious because while Omnifocus is not totally bug ridden it does have several bugs that have not been addressed for years and it is quite feature poor with a difficult non user friendly UI, this is a recurring theme across so many apps that Apple features, it certainly doesn’t deserve all the hype and attention it seems to get plus it is priced as if it were the king of the hill, the big dog, premier task and to-do app of the App Store, it’s not, not even close! At least in the case of Omnifocus the features it does have do in the most part actually work which is not the case for many of the apps so often featured by Apple which mostly follow a certain pattern, namely that they’re brightly coloured and look “pretty” and eye catching regardless of their available feature set or lack there of or that the often limited features they actually do have often don’t work reliably or at all in many cases. The way Apple deals with featuring apps and also rooting out apps that seek to improve their ratings with fake reviews (which does not apply to Omnifocus) needs to change, when an app has high ratings or is frequently featured by Apple that says something, there is a clear implication that Apple itself is endorsing that app as a good app, well how can you endorse something without properly trying it, and I don’t just mean looking for bright catchy colours or “pretty” looks!

Absolute rip off, constant money grab for updates and different machines

nozone2015 on

Once upon a time we could buy a piece of software and updates would be free or at least a reasonable cost every 5 yrs or more - and you could use it on more than one device. Here we have the modern cash-grab model. Buy an **expensive** licence, then buy it again for another device. Then pay for an upgrade a few months in. Then pay for another upgrade, then pay for another upgrade - or “subscribe” and just keep paying and paying. No more, bye bye Omni.

The gold standard for GTD

Nothing compares to OmniFocus for getting things done, this app has completely transformed my productivity. My only complaint is that it’s not available on non-Apple platforms, people without such devices are at a severe disadvantage. This app is worth every penny.

Great features and stable - shame the UI is so dated

Xlynxx on

So much to like. However, the interface is so frustrating on the iPad and mobile - makes you want to not nest any projects. Also looking ugly, like windows software from the 90s. I had high hopes for OF4 but the Beta is far from promising. They really understand time management but just can’t seem to crack the UI. That’s why I use things, so I can actually use my task manager on the go.

OmniJS is AMAZING

bilalkhan on

I'm a total convert with OmniJS. I can now automate creating a folder for each project, this makes all the difference and is enough that no other task manager can compare. When the UI overhaul of OmniFocus 4 arrives this will truly be an indispensable app for me! Thank you for making it 🧡

Glacial development pace

AnotherFineMess on

Well I provided my last review of Omnifocus 3 in may 2019 or saying how disillusioned I had become with it with its buggy difficult UI. I was disappointed as OF was in essence a great product (I used since version1) able to do many things. When OF2 came out it was a bit of a game changer on IOS but then OF3 .. oh boy it really felt like a product rushed and held together with tape string and glue. I switched over the the wonderful Things3 and after the transition period have never looked back. I really want OF to become great again and have been trialling OF4 beta for wa what seems like ages. Things have definitely improved but so far I have not seen anything that will entice me back and the fact that development seems to be so very very slow is concerning in itself although I guess Covid possibly hasn’t helped much I do wish the Omnifocus team well but have serious doubts that I will be back unless the first alpha release all just comes together in a surprising and happy way

It’s like 1990 again

Citizen55 on

Update your interface, you charge a fortune for this app and the UI team are stuck in the 90’s with the design. Big clunky buttons and poor font selection. Total disregard to the resolution available on the modern iPad. OmniFocus is quickly becoming a dinosaur.

Fantastic app

prionfou on

OmniFocus is a fantastic app to manage your to-do lists — all your to-do lists, everywhere — especially if you learn how to use it fully. I highly recommend getting to know it with Kourosh Dini’s book, Creating Flow with OmniFocus. I also strongly recommend using the desktop client during the day (which requires an addition subscription), as it is often less distracting than picking up one’s phone. One suggestion: it is possible to set a task to recur at a random date in the future; but could a random time be given to a task too? Certain tasks benefit from not having a set time during the day. Thanks.

It will let you down on the critical moment

Reliability! Reliability! Reliability! If a productivity tool is unreliable then it is counterproductive no matters how powerful it is.
