OmniFocus 3 Reviews

App never in sync, widget never in sync

LordGnarts on

New Zealand

I’m about 4 months from abandoning OmniFocus for an app with better shortcuts support. At the very least I require a way to keep reminders/items in sync and a way to automatically mark items as complete. OmniFocus shows no interest in offering either of these options. What is the point in a reminders app that you have to open to check if you have any due items. The whole point of setting these items is so I don’t have to check for myself. I want the app to proactively alert me.

Epic software

Oldskoolfragger on

New Zealand

I’m a long time OmniFocus user of the Mac and IOS versions. OmniFocus can be as simple or detailed as you like. Whether it’s lists, goals, habits, systems, or project management, these apps are adaptable for any lifestyle. I try out the other contenders in this app category every few years just in case I’m missing out but nothing compares.

Powerful and helpful

I’ve used Omni software for over a decade and they’ve never let me down. The software is powerful, well-supported (by actual humans who actually respond), and well-designed.

Omnipotent - The Best

I’ve used OmniFocus off and on for a few years. I loved it. It was powerful and comprehensive. But I still found myself trying others looking for some kind of app that would do my work for me. Or at least show nice pictures when I got overwhelmed. Lots of these were good, several were great but I missed things in OmniFocus. Then I did a course by Darren Hardy and seriously upped the level on my time management and focus skills. I went from expert in theory but not getting the results to finally a genuine practitioner, where action is the only conversation needed. Now when I reviewed advice from James Clear, Damon Zahariades and SJ Scott and others, I had new insights to making things work for me. And that meant going back to OmniFocus and it is the only product I have found that has the power I needed in the To Do management field. I use it in combination with Evernote (holds the knowledge of the universe) , Forest (my anti-distraction defence system) and a habit tracker called Productive. Omni Focus allows me to do some really clever things to leverage the lessons of Darren Hardy’s Insane Productivity Course. I’m not going to list the features as many apps have these features to some degree. It’s about how you set things up to work in a way that removes the noise and allows you to focus but capture the things that need doing. If you have got to the point in your life that you are blocked from advancing, then do the training, get the right tools and go out and change your reality.

Don’t bill me!

It seems I was stymied at the first hurdle - you don’t get to try the standard *and* pro, it’s either or, and if you don’t want it, then you can’t seem to remove it from your purchasing list. About to complain to Apple.

They fixed the bug…

MaxAgHammer on

United States

… that would erase your App Lock setting for OmniFocus and would crash the app when you try to add a password enabling App Lock when running on an iOS 14 device. It took a little while but I’m very happy with the results!

PLEASE change WatchOS Long Press to something else

courtneynovits on

United States

The watch app stops me from getting sucked into so much wasted time on my phone, but it needs to work. Apple’s bug that prevents long press from working without a forced reset of the app has affected the watch for some years now. It renders it unuseable. Please change the action to add a task from long press to absolutely anything else. A simple button is reliable. Pleaseeee. I want to use the app.

Garbage

jennywares on

United States

This app used to be amazing. I have relied on it for years and my LIFE is in it. Unfortunately now it freezes all the time while I’m trying to add a task. By the time it unfreezes or works, I have forgotten what I was trying to write down in the first place. I have had to reinstall it numerous times. It simply freezes all the time. Given the importance of a GTD to-do app like this one would think they’d work hard to make it reduce stress for subscribers , not add it.

The Gold Standard

Pucks on

United States

This app and software is the gold standard for task management. Others are more flashy and get updated more frequently, but none come close to competing for some reason. Learning curve seems steep, but it’s a lifelong journey and worth the time. I’m a decade plus in. Left, tried everything else, always come back.

Used for years. Essential app for organization.

TimmyFangs on

I’ve used OmniFocus for about 6 years now and I still love it. Many reviewing this app want it to be something it’s not. It’s a to-do list. However, it is the most powerful to-do app you will ever use. It is for organizing projects down to a granular level. It’s for people who have multiple facets of life and each needs its own special organization for their tasks. It’s for sorting related tasks into however you want to view them. It’s for alerting you about your tasks in any way you wish. It is insanely powerful and customizable. I use it for everyday to-do lists. I also used it to manage my entire last year of university when I was 39 and had a full time job and family. I use it for all of that too. This is the best organizing tool I’ve ever used. It especially helps me being bipolar and autistic when I forget about things I need to do. It always reminds me. Keep up the good work! I can’t wait for v4!
