Love it very much
I have been using otter for a couple of years now and I am growing more and more disappointed in the accuracy of what it hears. Lately, if I use my phone to record, the desktop app only shows/makes available a portion of the recording which has been super frustrating. My latest issue was a 12 minute recording done off my phone, but the recording when I went to retrieve it from my desktop was only 3 minutes long. With all the advances in AI you’d think this would be more accurate. Especially since I’m using the paid version. Smh…
I enjoyed using otter ai as I was able to document and review meetings and summarize key points and deliverables. My issue arose when otter automatically charged me for 2 additional user account when it was unclear that innocently inviting co workers to view transcripts would trigger this charge. To be fair otter does tell you they will charge you for added users. However there is a lack of transparency to this fact. It is incredibly easy to invite extra users with a single click while the information that you will be charged was buried deep in the policy descriptions. Furthermore the essentially non-existent otter support team dragged their feet on reimbursing me. It took multiple follow-ups on my end and much frustration at lack of available support until I was reimbursed. I suppose I should be happy they payed me back at all. Overall I would recommend looking for another AI transcription tool as this unpleasant experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Just look at other reviews… the general impression of otter ai is that of a shady organization drooling at the mouth over your personal data and subscription payments.
Was a life-changer when it started, but recently the velocity of new features and improvements in quality have been stagnant. Search functions, quality of recognition is not lagging behind others, unfortunately. At the same time, price has been inflating… I hope this does not end up as Evernote.
This app was awesome before the ai took over and began to summarize the playback of the recording. As a college student who values the ability to re-listen and needs the option to replay a lecture and compare the audio and transcription with my own notes ,this is not good. Paying for a transcription and audio playback should do what it is intended to do. Please return the ability to hear the recording play back as it is transcribed. The ai should not be deciding which parts are to be cut out now the audio play back . The person who is a student does not want a summary of the lecture when re listening to it. The ai does not have a brain to be able to know what is crucial and what is not in a lecture. Therefore the audio playback should match the transcription ;and not make a decision to reweave the lecture as it it has done! Adding ai summarization should not summarize or reorganize the audio playback of lectures or important conversations. This is an over reach of the ai properties. It in this users opinion lowers the value of this app.
As a paying customer , I am highly disappointed with Otter. I recorded an important meeting but when i saved it, there was a problem and the recording vanished!! I am highly disappointed
This pile of garbage app doesn’t even record or open properly try something else
I love this app y’all! I am a minister, a psychological practitioner, a writer and a black person who loves expression! Ideas spring forth in my mind with uncanny speed and regularity. Picking up the pen and finding one of my notebooks to capture these little gems is not always an option. But my phone is always close by and I can capture so much more with otter than on paper—especially having come from an oral tradition. I have written sermons, autobiographical stories and sketches, and catalogued many ideas for further consideration. Oh! And I also host early morning meditation sessions in which I speak for 1-10 minutes before we go into silence. I record these sessions and they are a treasure trove of insights, questions, and explorations. For some reason, like with today’s meditation session, the transcript contained an unusually high number of errors. While that doesn’t make me happy, it does not detract significantly from my experience of the app. I have and will continue to recommend Otter to anyone who needs a note taking system or who wants to capture their ideas, etc. I have but one problem with the app. Sharing my recordings. I wish it were easier and not necessary for folks to have the app to access shared recordings/notes. Thanks Otter!
Very hard to use. Not plug & play. Cancelled pro subscription.
