Proton Drive: Cloud Storage

I’m so glad this app exists. I can fully trust the Proton company to keep my data secure.

This is disappointing… I wanted to replace my iCloud, but I can’t even seem to effectively copy over my files from my iCloud to my ProtonDrive. They need to fix that.

Great in concept here but until I can view files synced from my computer on the mobile app I need to stick with Google. This feature is a must for me.

I love what Proton is trying to achieve. But I need more storage. We need more storage. Please let us buy more storage. It’s been requested for many years and still no option to buy more. Also the Photo backup won’t work if the screen is off, which is useless because nobody wants to open the app and wait for it everyday for it to backup

This app would be much better if you could see image thumbnails on your drive, among many other things. For example you can't swipe to the next image, and can't swipe down to go back to the file manager. Also the integration with Apple Files is essentially broken...

Constant syncing issues. What's in online storage seems to be out of sync with what I have locally. It's constantly downloading already downloaded files and can't seem to sort out changes from desktop or in app based in where they are done. Seems to ALWAYS default to just redownloading files which is a huge pain for any media. Weird grey boxes on line items, no seeming purpose to them. No ability to stop a download from being done most of the time it seems. I have less than 100 files totaling 19GB. Half my files are in the 100-200MB range, a few are GB. Even with background refresh on in settings, I have to leave the app up and open or syncing of files quits. If your patient, it seems like it will work eventually, but for an up to date app user on iPhone 14 Pro Max, it should work better.

The application is clearly half baked. The upload speeds and dialup-like. I got the ultimate subscription and not able to sync a photos library for couple of weeks already. The app stops syncing at any touch of the device: switching apps, moving out of the WiFi network, switching networks, etc. the support only suggests logout or reinstall the app. The logout usually crashes and you won’t load the app anymore. The reinstall works for a while (that’s probably how they crawl up the trends, forcing customers multiple installs). No background syncing as well.

A couple things: 1. Please allow the ability to swipe left and right to open different files, instead of having to exit each one and go into the next. 2. When I navigate to a new folder, the “loading” wheel turns at the top for a couple seconds, which is fine, but the entire window shifts up when it’s done. This is annoying because I frequently am navigating thru folders quickly, and I tap another folder and right when I tap, the window shifts up and the folder *under* the one I tapped is opened. Is there maybe a way to put the “loading” wheel toward the side or maybe just in the center of the screen on top of everything so that the folders/files don’t shift? Other than that, the app is great! 4 stars right now, but when these two get fixed, 5 stars!!

Update for dev: I had 6 different tickets out for drive across Mac, android, iOS, iPadOS. Every single one was replied to with “we are aware of the issue, we don’t know when it will be fixed”. Giving you a ticket number here won’t solve the problems. I paid for this app for 2 years. It was broken all 2 years I paid for drive. Constant issues with uploads and downloads. Especially downloads, there is a known error that won’t allow large file downloads. Has been there for months and never gets fixed. When you report problems to proton no one cares. They give a generic we know this is an issue and don’t know when it will be fixed. You are better off encrypting your files and uploading them or using Apple ADP.

I have never been able to manually upload photos to the drive. I don’t backup my photos, I only sometimes need to upload a couple photos at a time. It doesn’t matter the file type, it just won’t accept raw, jpeg, nor png. Kinda lame.
