I’ve been using Splitwise for years between friends. It’s been super helpful and I wouldn’t have minded watching a few ads per use to help fund the app. Instead they have now limited the transaction number to a very small daily limit and unskippable ads for the pro version every time I log a payment. Worst downfall of a great app I’ve ever seen. Will uninstall and not use again.
The worst app to ever exist. Make payments way more complicated. Absolutely hate this.
Excellent tool.
App was useful until they turned it into a subscription to use it. I’ll just use a spreadsheet now.
I have used Splitwise for a number of years for traveling with friends and family. Sad to see Splitwise has gone the way of every other doomed app that not only monetizes their service by annoying ads but also limits use of its basic functions (limiting expenses to add). I understand ads and up-charging for premium functions but to limit the actual use of your core function seems counterproductive as a business model. Needless to say this is an app that provides a convenience not a necessity and therefore I will start using one of the competing apps that puts more effort into user experience to enhance monetization not the other way around.
It’s so frustrating that I can’t add my own categories or rename existing ones. After a couple of years as a Pro subscriber I’m now searching for a new app.
I never used this app often. But when I did I found it amazing to add expenses and split amongst friends to settle up. The concept is great. They introduced ads to bring in revenue which I’m ok with. What I’m most upset about is daily max on top of ads. I’m not going to upgrade to pro as I use the app very sparingly. This change has led me to stop using it going forward if they are going to do both ads and caps. I hope the developers/mgt sees how this is upsetting people.
They changed this app in late 2023 to only accept two expenses a day. They did not notify users of the change before implementing claiming no one reads those emails. I read them, and appreciate them. If you have only have two expenses per day, that’s great. It’s too expensive for what it offers.
The free version is unusable now due to max of 4 expenses a day. This makes it unusable for casual splitting between friends on trips, which I used this app for a while as. I understand pro being required for more extensive splitting metrics or professional features but this is ridiculous. The splitting feature on this app can easily be replicated in other free apps with minimal software. Disappointing that this app would tank their user base for a quick buck.
