I would pay extra (ok not really, I feel I’m already paying enough) for a setting to not have to accidentally read the comments. I really truly am not interested in anonymous readers opinions. At least the New York Times makes you click before you get to the cheap seats…
Standards dropping
I subscribed because it was one news outlet which concentrated on sporting merits and demerits of United. It still has good United correspondents in Andy Mitten Laurie Whitwell and Carl Anka and a really good United podcast which is excellent. But lately they have also been having very silly articles based on clubs internal communications and meetings by reporters like Adam Crafton which unfortunately he feels are entertaining 😕 I subscribed for serious sports journalism not a gossip column.
Cannot change size of text
I would use it more if I was able to change the size of text in the app separately to the size of text on my phone. I have a reading disability and it sucks that I cannot do this. With the old app it was possible.
Good content, poor app
The old app was much better.
Quality
You get more than what you pay for, amazing in-depth articles with plenty of visual material produced in-house.
Sports journalism at its finest
Great journalism, coverage on my favourite teams, and a slick app.
Great content terrible podcast player.
Listening to podcasts using this app is terrible; which sucks because it’s the only way to listen ad-free. If I stop a podcast and try to return to it later it never remembers where I left of and always starts from the beginning. Occasionally it wil even restart after I briefly pause a podcast. Needs chromecast support as well!
Great writing
I like the Athletic app, looks clean and works as you expect. You can follow teams & writers, what I’m missing is the option of following certain athletes.
