In this world of highly partisan, entertainment driven news The Economist is an outlier. Readable, thoughtful, detailed news that spans topics around the world. If you can read only one source of news each week, this should be it.
One of the slowest and buggiest apps I’ve ever used. Why does it take minutes to start playing an audio clip when it’s already downloaded to flash memory? Why does it quit when playing for more than 10 minutes? This app needs a ground-up native rewrite. Great content but the app is very poor. Also drains my battery even in the background.
The latest update from economist is not worthy of the name: buggy, freezing, crashing. Even in new model iPhone. While the content remains excellent, the UX has taken a serious tumble down with this update. Please fix!
I love the Economist but this app crashes every time I use it now. I’ll be halfway through reading a story and it just shuts down and slows down my iPhone significantly for a minute or so afterward. I’m going to have to cancel my subscription if it doesn’t get fixed.
Frustrating that I can’t turn off autoplay when listening to an article. The next one plays automatically but I don’t always want to listen to the next article.
I have been a faithful subscriber to the Economist for years. I love the magazine (sorry - newspaper 😊). The app experience is therefore all the more jarring. It is exceedingly slow (why?? It’s just text and pictures) and does not load when there is no Internet even if I have “downloaded the issue “. More recently it has also started crashing on a regular basis. I have complained to no avail; then they stopped asking for my feedback. I am at a loss as to why it seems to be so difficult to make a working app that has only a few basic functions. Sigh 😭
How is such a longstanding and beloved publication even capable of publishing an app with such terrible performance? No better content to consume; too bad it is wrapped in an app that makes me want to scream. Personally, I’d pay a little more if it helped them hire a competent developer. It’s been this way for too many years.
This review is purely about the app (the reporting is fantastic!). Recently the app has become very sluggish with 5-8 sec lag times after tapping an article. Reinstalling the app makes no difference. This needs to be fixed!
Please fix your app. It continually crashes, making it very time consuming to read articles.
Like the content but the app struggles. It’s a bit slow and the biggest issue is if you swap apps and go back to the economist, it reloads and you lose your article and are at the home page. Impossible to look up additional info while reading
