Great content but very sluggish app
I love the research and writing of the economist. 5/5 for that!
But the app is very frustrating … Even though I own an iPhone 12 Pro, the app still feels very sluggish when navigating. I perceive this mostly with audio. E.g. when returning to the app from another one, while audio is playing, it sometimes takes roughly 3-5 seconds before it responds to touches. Even though it is not a cold start of the app.
Something must be deeply wrong with the SW architecture. It seems some buffering is taking place in those instances. But why does the whole UI have to freeze?
Please have a deeper look, why it is like that. There must be surely better ways to handle media with good Ux.

Has become terrible
This used to be a decent app. In recent months it has become very sluggish and most annoying of all jumps around in the audio playlist (usually all the way up to the Business dection) when I swipe up to return from the app to the home screen.
App crashes all the time
Content is absolutely world class but the app crashes all the time. Almost impossible to read an article without a crash
Great content, atrocious app performance
I am a longtime subscriber to the Economist and greatly value the contents provided. Yet the experience of the Economist App has always been horrible on any device I’ve been using over the years, be it Android or iOS smartphones or tablets. The app is slow, lagging and occasionally contents will refuse to load. As this has been persistent over time and devices, I have a hard time believing that this problem is specific to an unfortunate technical issue on my end. On the iPad Pro (M1) I use the browser for a much smoother experience. To me it is incomprehensible how the app experience can be so much worse than the browser experience.
Audio could be better
On the whole, not bad. But I would like a more transparent audio view that bundles the podcasts and the articles *AND GIVES ME TRANSPARENCY AND EASY SETTINGS* for downloads.
Love the Economist, hate the app
The journalism was great as always, but I rarely seen such a buggy app that constantly forced closes, takes forever to open and a super unresponsive. The experience of similar to the journalistic quality of the Sun and the New York Post.
Horrible UX
The UX of the app "The Economist" has become so horribly bad s to become a useless app. The first app was the best, the second was still OK, but this one is the worst I've experienced. I usually read my Economist on an iPad Pro 11", but I probably will switch back to the paper edition because this is really the worst magazine UX I have experienced.
I can't even download the whole issue anymore to read offline. I don't want a mix of current website and the magazine. The only thing I am asking for is a magazine app that allows me, comfortably (and with a fluid and fast UI) to red my newspaper.
Also: why can't I use all rotations on my iPad?
This app is so bad that I really considered (and consider) canceling my 20+ year Economist subscription. This is the epitome of ens***fication.

I have no downloaded weekly edition, but the App grew in meanwhile to 650 MB.
Please provide an option to delete all downloaded data incl. cache.
Please fix the app
Very interesting articles and content but since a couple of months, the mobile app is getting increasingly worse.
It takes very long to load, the app is irresponsive at times and since a few weeks it keeps crashing in the middle of reading an article.
Fantastic journalism, unusable app
I’m a subscriber and app user since several years. The Economist delivers fantastic journalism. The app as it is today is the poorest I’ve experienced so far. It’s not responding to input, the animations are painfully slow. Overall it’s very hard to navigate and it’s not fun reading this way.
Also, a home screen widget would be a great feature. Other news apps have it and I find myself pulled into their apps all the time.
I’d love to see the app stepping up to match the journalism it delivers.
