Overcast

The performance of Overcast has been an issue for a while now for me (iPhone 13), but with the new update I run into way more bugs up to a point where the app is unusable. Just playing a different episode of a downloaded podcast was not possible until I turned on a stable network again. Allowing cellular downloads was easy before and now it’s hidden where I don’t even find how I can do it. Instead of becoming faster, easier and more useful it’s turned into the opposite. Looking for alternatives now.

In general it’s a great app but the new design has many bugs and missing features in the iPad. The worst bug is that clicking the information symbol on a podcast only works one time and from then on always shows the same card again.

Ist ideal für Einsteiger aber auch für Vielnutzer, die alles ganz genau nach den eigenen Vorlieben einstellen möchten. Nach dem letzten großen App-Update (kompletter Rewrite der App) gab es hier und da Bugs, die aber alle zügig nach und nach behoben werden. Riesen Lob an Marco, der das alles alleine schafft. Da gebe ich freiwlllig jährlich ein paar Euro rein!

The app experience got totally ruined by the last update and this is not just me resisting change. I sincerely have it a try now for a couple of weeks and I still find the new UX horrible. There are a lot of glitches in the design now that previously weren’t there. It seems like I can no longer automatically add new podcast episodes to the queue when they are released. Manually adding episodes to the queue now takes multiple steps whereas before you could just get where you wanted to with pretty much a swipe. I understand the developer’s desire to start with a new foundation in terms of code. But I think that trying to update the UI at the same time, they bit of more than they could chew.

Sehr zufrieden mit dieser App, seit ich sie habe höre ich etwa 10x so viele Podcasts wie davor. Intuitiv, tolle Features und gut designed. Top. Seit 10 Jahren sehr zufrieden.

Episodes that have already been downloaded are randomly deleted. The problem occurs both with new downloaded episodes and with episodes that have been partially played.

Die tolle App ist leider seit dem letzten größeren Update nicht mehr nutzbar- die Queue schaltet nicht mehr automatisch weiter und vor allem stürzt sie regelmäßig ab. Dann wird der Podcast unterbrochen und aus der queue gelöscht. Sehr schade, ich hoffe auf baldige Reparatur

Nach 10 Jahren vom Programmierer komplett neu geschrieben sind ein paar Dinge anders und ungewohnt. Aber drauf einlassen und alles wird gut! ;)

This rewrite is not a good one, it’s an excellent one! All thumbs up! I am still on a SE 2nd gen and really was in awe due to the constantly decreasing performance as I have a list of about 50 podcasts. Scrolling and tapping was quite unresponsive. This rewrite is a rebirth not to mention all the fine design decisions. Thanks for keeping up the improvements over the last years and finally making the SwiftUI move!
