Overcast

Since last update, the timer isn’t integrated in the app. Sad. One has to do workarounds. Why? Why is there a maximum of 10 or all download? Why not having the possibility to have 99 or 999 or any variable as potential numbers of downloads? Simple and effective..

Although I preferred the old card-layout, overcast is still a great app and by a long shot the app I use most often on my phone, even compared to safari.

Overcast was a perfect app. Nice that we got a new design. However the execution of the new release if frustrating. All the background processes seem to be unreliable now. Synching between the devices seems always only to start when you open the app. Same with the downloading of new episodes. One device I have all downloads stuck at „waiting to download“. On an other device these podcasts all start to download. I don‘t expect a software to be perfect on such a big rewrite, however the execution regarding testing, beta testing is a big negative surprise. Seems somebody got a bit overconfident on his skills.

Overcast’s design is always evolving in thoughtful and creative UI improvements. Best podcast app without a doubt.

I appreciate that a well thought through new app design is now here! Looks so much more to date. To have a few flaws is expected, but as said on atp podcast, they will be addressed. For me no real downside other than I have to adjust to something new, but honestly great to see the app development is still very much alive and I can embrace this change. Works better one handed! Downloads take forever. Chapters view is worse than before because it is more difficult to reach and it is dismissed when a chapter is selected. I also want to see the chapter list and the skip buttons on the same screen at the same time, like in the past. Chapters should be shown instead of the podcast image. The podcast image adds almost no value and a lot of screen real estate is wasted by it.

I just loved this app in the past and I considered Marco an opinionated, but very capable dev. But with the latest major update, that got rushed to be released on the 10th anniversary, the “human” site got the better of him. After doing a rewrite, the app was published without implementing tests, and a short closed beta phase (as told by himself on ATP). As a result, some of the basic features are still in utter disgrace well a month in after publishing. The sorting in playlists does not work, episodes get re-downloaded. In the past, I could open the app and fined something to listen to within the top five listed episodes. But since the update, my morning routing is sorting manually and keep deleting episodes I already listened to. From one of my favourite apps to daily pain with one update.

I relied on streaming which is gone, downloading episodes is buggy and fails many times. I can’t find the export podcast list which you guys used to have. Still 5 stars overall
