Really bad at picking up speech (unlike Duolingo). Impossibly small pictures.
I have no idea what I’m learning as there’s no grammar explanation. I feel I’m just winging it.
This app was so wrong - the pronunciation recognition is broken for Filipino was always coming up as wrong even though my pronunciation was right. My native Filipino partner tested it and was also told he was wrong. Quality control must be awful.
I personally love this app. It works well for my style of learning. I don’t always remember things that are simply explained to me. I remember them better if I had to figure it out for myself. All the grammar is taught this way in Rosetta Stone, where you are given carefully selected examples and exercises to draw your attention to a specific pattern of speech or grammatical concept, but it’s up to you to deduce what that is. I also really like that I’m not asked to translate into English all the time.
Disappointed that I can only use the app in landscape , means you always have to hold the iPad sideways to use the app , this isn’t a good option especially if using while travelling
Having used another language learning software app for the last two years I was hoping this would be of a similar standard. Wow was I wrong on that. The voice recognition is non existent, it is unable to recognise a simple one word phrase (& I know I’m pronouncing it right as it’s worked fine on the other app). Maybe don’t include the option if your software can’t do voice recognition? Also the learning curve is pretty steep, (thankfully I know the language a bit already but starting from scratch could be quite difficult for some users). There also doesn’t appear to be any translations in your own language. Hopefully things improve as I progress & I can improve my rating.
It wants you to identify photos 5mm high by 6mm wide. You usually need to pick the gender of the subject. They use models with androgynous hairstyles, making it even harder. They often don’t explain what they want you to do. Often the page does not fit on the iPhone’s screen. Sometimes the text is tiny and grey. The microphone does not seem to hear me. I have to shout. Their teaching method is good, but their App is very poorly executed. It’s infuriating to use. Duolingo has none of those problems. It’s very hard to identify the tiny photos. You can’t zoom in to see them. It’s completely unsuited to the iPhone.
I just paid for three months of this and it’s useless to me. The mic won’t pick up anything I say. I have no problem on any other apps but on this one the red mic dot comes on to show the mic is active but the app just won’t hear anything and times out. I have allowed access to the mic in settings, but nothing. A huge waste of money.
App looked to be decent until I had to use the microphone for input, absolute migraine inducing. Tried multiple times, on both cellular and wifi, with multiple different microphone inputs, could pickup a thing 90% of the time, and just timed out, seemed to work better when you pronounce something then some choice of abuse (due to frustration) afterwards.
