Rosetta Stone: Learn Languages

Great app, but you guys absolutely need to create a dark mode for people to use on iOS. it’s blinding to study in the dark with the bright white app. That’s why I’m not studying tonight and instead writing this review.

Flash cards with sentences in the language you’re learning with no explanation, with an alphabet you don’t know? What a waste of time! How can they ever think you’re gonna learn something if they don’t teach you anything? They just throw sentences at you, asking you to repeat, but you have no clue of what you’re saying. Really ….

I have issues with some of the lessons, the voice sometimes fails to register what I’m saying, even though I’m speaking loudly and clear. It’s very frustrating at times because I keep repeating over and over without success. On the other hand, some of the other lessons, the voice recognition works perfectly. I hope this gets looked at.

I’m a few lessons in and there are two major issues I see so far 1) speech recognition is super inconsistent 2) use of photos that can be laughably tiny when trying to identify what they are for vocabulary purposes. Think of a detailed image less than 1cm squared and using process of elimination to select it which is not how you gain vocabulary. Was there no testing done to make sure the images would be clear and meaningful on a phone?

If you’re serious about learning a new language, this is the app you need

Really good program. I do struggle with the intuitive learning approach though and do wish there was some context within the lessons. Also the speech recognition is sometimes off.

The app doesn’t perform well on tablet. After a lesson, it goes back to the first lesson. That is a glitch that could be fixed. Otherwise it would have been a 5. I stopped using on my phone because sometimes it wouldn’t hear me properly.

I’ve had the app since 2018 with the lifetime membership and it’s one of the best investments I’ve made. It’s easy to use and fun to learn with too. I especially love how they use different looking faces, environments, and people from cultures all around the world. The built in daily learning system helps keep us also perfect for keeping you on track with consistently learning lessons. It’s been such a fun, easy, and reliable language learning tool. You should definitely get it!

The app is showing me picture and Tagalog language but no English. So I don’t understand

The methods it uses to teach you the language is good. Often I find that if I just guess the answer I get it correct and I'm not always sure why. Later on the lessons revisit words and concepts learned to help reinforce the concepts learned. The software itself is buggy. The pause button basically does not work. Often lessons come up and go through so fast that I don't understand a thing and I cannot pause or easily go back. The translation button where it displays the words in English barely works and so I often do not use it. once the translation is on it's very hard to get it off. often the app exits the screen or jumps around for no reason. Maybe a few other glitchy things that are just annoying and distract from learning. Would be nice if they could polish up the software a bit
