Not For Me, Could Be Great For You
The rating and title might be confusing considering it seems contradictory, but I’d like to explain to help others considering using this. I self-applied for the CBT program locally near me, so I decided to try Clarity out to get an idea of what I’m going into. It provides an excellent explanation of what CBT is, details on specific mental illnesses and coping strategies, specifically focusing on changing your thought pattern. I understand these now, which is excellent, but the reason Clarity wasn’t for me is simply because I understand now that I prefer in-person CBT, whereas the app relies heavily its AI feature. I did get past the free trial because I thought it was helping me. If I remember correctly the AI Chatbot should learn about you over time. I explained to it that I heavily struggle with Illness Anxiety Disorder (aka. Hypochondria), but the app didn’t seem to provide help for me in that regard. I felt it tended to simply ask me how I can change my thoughts about a doctor’s visit, or that I’m overthinking something, and instead of providing ways of changing my thoughts about it, it always just asked me what I do when I have these thoughts. The AI Chatbot, to me, didn’t seem to adapt to me as much as it claims it should, and I felt I was simply getting a pat on the back when it says “I’m sorry to hear that”, etc. This being said, because again this has seemed quite negative, the highlights on the app are everything except for the Chatbot, at least for me. I wanted to write this review to acknowledge that the developers have absolutely created a great app, but the AI experience wasn’t for me, which is why it’s 4 stars from me. The courses, learning about CBT, and breathing exercises are the best features. For those considering the app, definitely think about if you function better human-to-human, or don’t use the Chatbot if you feel it won’t help you. It’s definitely going to be a different experience for everyone. It wasn’t for me, but I highly thank the developers for creating the app.
