• Easy to use — Our all-new app has been redesigned to make it easier to read, organize, and write your emails.
• Your inbox is yours — We don’t spy on your communications to show you targeted ads. Your inbox, your rules.
• Rigorous encryption — Your entire inbox is secured, on all your devices. No one can read your emails but you. Proton is privacy, guaranteed by end-to-end and zero-access encryption.
• Unmatched protection — We offer strong phishing, spam, and spying/tracking protection for all your communications.

Industry Leading Security Features
Messages are stored on Proton Mail servers using end-to-end encryption at all times and are transmitted securely between Proton servers and user devices. This largely eliminates the risk of message interception.

Zero Access to Your Email Content
Proton Mail's zero access architecture means that your data is encrypted in a way that makes it inaccessible to us. Data is encrypted on the client side using an encryption key that Proton does not have access to. This means we don't have the technical ability to decrypt your messages.

Open-Source Cryptography
Proton Mail's open-source software has been thoroughly vetted by security experts from around the world to ensure the highest levels of protection. Proton Mail only uses secure implementations of AES, RSA, along with OpenPGP, while all of the cryptographic libraries used are open source. By using open-source libraries, Proton Mail can guarantee that the encryption algorithms used do not have clandestinely built-in back doors.

Proton Mail in the press:
“Proton Mail is a Gmail-like email system which uses end-to-end encryption, making it impossible for outside parties to monitor.” Forbes

“A new email service being developed by a group who met at MIT and CERN promises to bring secure, encrypted email to the masses and keep sensitive information away from prying eyes.” Huffington Post

Still accustoming myself to the cues but I like the feeling of confidence in security.

Account renewal issues and slow support

obiwon_kenobi on

I wasn’t using proton mail and forgot to disable auto renew. I noticed the renewal charge for another 12 months on my statement so I reached out to proton mail and requested to close the account and refund the recent charge (times are tough). Two weeks later no support other than auto responses from Zendesk. No human response. I Reached out to Amex and created a dispute in order to get some support and refund the charge. Proton then locked my account access because I reached out through Amex. I’m sure the thin veneer to justify is “account security” despite them failing to recognise the open support ticket requesting a refund and now Amex requesting the same. They insist that I “am a user” of their service since because I logged in after the renewal date, which was only to check and ensure what I had already turned off was in fact turned off (auto renew) and to contact support to request a refund, I am an active user - see, the logs prove our logic. I’m sure their is a BS definition of “a user” in their TOS - super, great support PM. Now I am locked out of the PM account and have paid for 12months for a service I do not want nor have used. Such a waste of time this is and typical of faceless technology companies. If we interacted face to face im sure your support would be different. What should be a simple matter is now a multi touch point matter. What a waste of my time.

need ability to pin emails to the top.

text editor needs improvement urgently

Fr.Improver on

i have been using PM for awhile; unfortunately lately the text editor has become infuriatingly frustrating. it is too easy to inadvertently select whole paragraphs instead of repointing the cursor. To make matters worse, i’m one instance the editor then selected the whole email.. in my attempt to undo the whole selection, it then pasted the clipboard (a couple of words) over my entire email message, effectively destroying 30mins of message preparation. 2 fixes needed: 1: provide an undo option ASAP. 2: change it back to cursor repointing instead of being super-sensitive at highlighting words and paragraphs.

Very good

I was looking at a website talking about anonymity on the internet and proton mail is one of the best mail apps for that! And it’s also used in Tor the most secure browser

Good but bad search

MaxT3 on

Overall pretty decent but the search is absolutely useless and it can’t get dates around the right way

I’m enjoying how u organise mail more importantly security is my key concerns & lm hoping what u claim eg encryption is genuine. Security in this day & age is of the highest importance to most.

Very happy with Proton Mail

Haloumee on

Thanks to the Proton app ecosystem (see Proton Unlimited), I have finally broken free of the dreaded privacy-invading scourge that is the Google ecosystem. Goodbye Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Drive. No longer will you devour my most precious of information. While others may continue to feed your unquenchable thirst to realise your destiny as the all-seeing eye of Sauron, I will surely not. Instead, I have sailed to a land of privacy, freedom and security. The land of Proton. In this land, I need not worry about zealots with mal intent flogging tainted wares. Instead, things are as they seem. An email service sends and stores your emails. A calendar keeps your appointments. A cloud drive keeps your files. You may do these things as if in the privacy of your own home. What a concept. Proton Unlimited.

Love it

Performance issues

curiocty on

I like proton’s services and have been using them for a while now. UI+UX also deserve praise. However, the mail client in particular, has been demonstrating constant performance issues as of late. Notifications aren’t always prompt and when they are, it fails to load updated inbox content until the app is restarted. Sometimes, it fails to connect at all until restart, even when all other apps have been connecting just fine.
