Industry Leading Security Features
Messages are stored on Proton Mail servers using end-to-end encryption at all times and are transmitted securely between Proton servers and user devices. This largely eliminates the risk of message interception.
Zero Access to Your Email Content
Proton Mail's zero access architecture means that your data is encrypted in a way that makes it inaccessible to us. Data is encrypted on the client side using an encryption key that Proton does not have access to. This means we don't have the technical ability to decrypt your messages.
Open-Source Cryptography
Proton Mail's open-source software has been thoroughly vetted by security experts from around the world to ensure the highest levels of protection. Proton Mail only uses secure implementations of AES, RSA, along with OpenPGP, while all of the cryptographic libraries used are open source. By using open-source libraries, Proton Mail can guarantee that the encryption algorithms used do not have clandestinely built-in back doors.
Proton Mail in the press:
“Proton Mail is a Gmail-like email system which uses end-to-end encryption, making it impossible for outside parties to monitor.” Forbes
“A new email service being developed by a group who met at MIT and CERN promises to bring secure, encrypted email to the masses and keep sensitive information away from prying eyes.” Huffington Post

Proton Mail Reviews

Doesn’t support the new screen resolution on iPhone 16 Pro series

Kenny Tetsuya on

Australia

this App is still not updated to the new display resolution of iPhone 16 Pro! It’s been 14.5 weeks since the release of the iPhone 16 Pro. And still no update. Hurry up! Still not updated as of 31/12/2024!!!!

Unusable

TruthPigeon on

Australia

Crashes constantly, can’t read, select or delete emails or do anything of use at all really.

Please add this feature

That’s right! I’m holding you hostage with a 1 star review! In the iOS app you really need to be able to make the inbox just display a single email address when you’re using multiple. It’s just become a disaster for me. I should have created entire new accounts.

Simply the best.

Good email

John Perth on

Australia

It’s a good mail system. Good, clear fonts and secure. However enquiries are a problem to get answers. Proton claims that they are too busy with all the enquiries/issues to reply within a reasonable time. This has been the case for years. Perhaps increasing the staff levels would help.

Meh 🫤

Website is good ✅ Encryption is nice to have ✅ No archive vs delete ❌ No spam filters ❌ No custom folders ❌ No Calendar integration ❌ If you use the forget my password link, all your data and I mean everything is scrambled and unrecoverable ❌ Out of the box this app seems somewhat clumsy and not as intuitive or good as the default IOS Mail app, Trying to find out a way to use the default mail app with proton mail and nowhere online has the answer, seems like it’s not possible.. If the experience was better, yeah sure I’d pay money for subscription, but I can’t justify it now, 🤷‍♂️

The worst?

Proton Mail is so private that I couldn’t even get the verification emails for the sites I signed up to. They just never arrived. Correct spelling and everything.
