• Easy to use — Our all-new app has been redesigned to make it easier to read, organize, and write your emails.
• Your inbox is yours — We don’t spy on your communications to show you targeted ads. Your inbox, your rules.
• Rigorous encryption — Your entire inbox is secured, on all your devices. No one can read your emails but you. Proton is privacy, guaranteed by end-to-end and zero-access encryption.
• Unmatched protection — We offer strong phishing, spam, and spying/tracking protection for all your communications.
Industry Leading Security Features
Messages are stored on Proton Mail servers using end-to-end encryption at all times and are transmitted securely between Proton servers and user devices. This largely eliminates the risk of message interception.
Zero Access to Your Email Content
Proton Mail's zero access architecture means that your data is encrypted in a way that makes it inaccessible to us. Data is encrypted on the client side using an encryption key that Proton does not have access to. This means we don't have the technical ability to decrypt your messages.
Open-Source Cryptography
Proton Mail's open-source software has been thoroughly vetted by security experts from around the world to ensure the highest levels of protection. Proton Mail only uses secure implementations of AES, RSA, along with OpenPGP, while all of the cryptographic libraries used are open source. By using open-source libraries, Proton Mail can guarantee that the encryption algorithms used do not have clandestinely built-in back doors.
Proton Mail in the press:
“Proton Mail is a Gmail-like email system which uses end-to-end encryption, making it impossible for outside parties to monitor.” Forbes
“A new email service being developed by a group who met at MIT and CERN promises to bring secure, encrypted email to the masses and keep sensitive information away from prying eyes.” Huffington Post

Secure mail, functional use on my mobile

Blunis on

Luxembourg

Some Pseudo-Loyalty programmes do not accept it as e-mail address because they want to track your activity and they know protonmail doesn't let them

Great Mail System

Daisymupp on

Luxembourg

I really like this secure Mail system, but I miss some features in the IOS App like the Vip contacts (only notifications for mails which come from these contacts) and a Search function similar to the one in the Web interface.

ease of use

Hashthink.com on

Luxembourg

It is nice to have a well structured secure email partner managed by CERN in neutral Switzerland, over all this years, wow, what an honor, I trust humanity will find a working solution one day for light speed travelling for example, some solution linked to photons maybe? thanks for this great email tool!

Good email provider

Harbo03 on

Luxembourg

Good for privacy and speed, only downside is you can only create a certain number of folder in the free version. But else it’s great

Cannot delete emails

Dkr1182 on

Luxembourg

The app does not allow you to delete e-mails. For a privacy email service that is fatal because it gives you the feeling like even if you delete (hides it until next refresh) a mail it wont be deleted. A ticket has been opened before this review, the support is aware of the problem, seems there is no solution yet. I am told to delete emails via web. Sorry but in 2023 you cant expect to accept this from a paid mail service. Please fix asap!

Problem solved after deleting the cache

Longstory0505 on

Luxembourg

the previously reported problem with new emails not showing up automatically has been solved by deleting the cache together with a reboot

Best email service

Laurent L on

Luxembourg

I have been using Protonmail with its no-hassle automatic PGP encryption. It works just as any normal email program, it is very easy to use. Yet, it encrypts emails either with other @protonmail users or of you have the other persons’ PGP key. Opting for Protonmail is a no-brainer, it is simply awesome

Good Stuff

I learn a lot on this app.

Automation of simple tasks via an email server is one way to create waste capitalization gains. It also leads to security issues that can’t be enumerated given the nature of human led conflicts. Proton has a suite of options for many aspects of cyber security but I find that a secure system in tandem with transparency and no fault nullifications of minor disputes leads to a better overall system of self governance. Proton has always been there for me to learn from and do better with their open source approach. I want to thank Proton for leading my cyber studies in a positive and beneficial way given the nature of cyber. Happy holidays from Buddha. Now get back to work!

Won't forward any mail

Sam the Butchers on

United States

Got the notifications that Gmail and Yahoo mail synced and that did. It just won't forward any new mail. Did the rest when opening the app from the settings menu. Wanted to like the app and pay for it but I'll look elsewhere for now.
