Industry Leading Security Features
Messages are stored on Proton Mail servers using end-to-end encryption at all times and are transmitted securely between Proton servers and user devices. This largely eliminates the risk of message interception.
Zero Access to Your Email Content
Proton Mail's zero access architecture means that your data is encrypted in a way that makes it inaccessible to us. Data is encrypted on the client side using an encryption key that Proton does not have access to. This means we don't have the technical ability to decrypt your messages.
Open-Source Cryptography
Proton Mail's open-source software has been thoroughly vetted by security experts from around the world to ensure the highest levels of protection. Proton Mail only uses secure implementations of AES, RSA, along with OpenPGP, while all of the cryptographic libraries used are open source. By using open-source libraries, Proton Mail can guarantee that the encryption algorithms used do not have clandestinely built-in back doors.
Proton Mail in the press:
“Proton Mail is a Gmail-like email system which uses end-to-end encryption, making it impossible for outside parties to monitor.” Forbes
“A new email service being developed by a group who met at MIT and CERN promises to bring secure, encrypted email to the masses and keep sensitive information away from prying eyes.” Huffington Post

Proton Mail Reviews

Great service, Good app

Dandiesel on

Ireland

I wish the app had more of the functionality that the (mobile) web version has. Sometimes I'll have an unread mail and pull to refresh never finishes loading. But proton mail as a service is top notch.

How great thow art

I started using Protonmail 10 years ago when it offered an alternative to the stealing of my life experiences through sifting and marketing of my data. I was really annoyed, so what to do. Luckily I found protonmail which allowed me to at least start to make a difference on privacy of communication I’m still held ransom on others willing to forgo their privacy when I send them or an email to a gmail account, but I do have the option of-encrypting the email Which is great, I can limit exposure on certain subjects relating to innovation. So that privacy can be up held Thank you protonmail staff for all your hard work and for your help Nicholas

I reported this issue five months ago and it has yet to be fixed.

No dark mode option in settings

MGEIRE on

White background is far too bright. Why is there no option for dark mode. Seems to be standard nowadays. Considering deleting app and just using web.

The last version UI update is great

motasat on

The app used to be less than decent but with the last version finally it feels and looks great!

Great service, terrible App/UI

Pádraig ME on

Ireland

Protonmail is great, I have used it as my main email for years now. However, the app is rubbish. The biggest problem being the location of the buttons all the way up at the top, which makes one handed use impossible. All the buttons should be moved to the bottom/bottom half of the screen where it's most accessible for my thumbs. On a lesser note, the lack of a dark mode and the ugly/dated UI could also be improved.

Great App

I signed up for a premium (bundle) account 2years back with a good discount at the time. Took a while to adapt to different interface (compared to gmail) but got used to it fairly quickly. I like the fact that all my info remains mine as big tech companies like to harvest your data (even if it’s not directly identified to you) and sell it to advertisers. Proton is built around privacy -a basic civil Liberty all too freely given away. I found the app reliable and solid, customer support is decent too. One of the few apps it consider must-have.

So bad they delete negative reviews
