Industry Leading Security Features
Messages are stored on Proton Mail servers using end-to-end encryption at all times and are transmitted securely between Proton servers and user devices. This largely eliminates the risk of message interception.
Zero Access to Your Email Content
Proton Mail's zero access architecture means that your data is encrypted in a way that makes it inaccessible to us. Data is encrypted on the client side using an encryption key that Proton does not have access to. This means we don't have the technical ability to decrypt your messages.
Open-Source Cryptography
Proton Mail's open-source software has been thoroughly vetted by security experts from around the world to ensure the highest levels of protection. Proton Mail only uses secure implementations of AES, RSA, along with OpenPGP, while all of the cryptographic libraries used are open source. By using open-source libraries, Proton Mail can guarantee that the encryption algorithms used do not have clandestinely built-in back doors.
Proton Mail in the press:
“Proton Mail is a Gmail-like email system which uses end-to-end encryption, making it impossible for outside parties to monitor.” Forbes
“A new email service being developed by a group who met at MIT and CERN promises to bring secure, encrypted email to the masses and keep sensitive information away from prying eyes.” Huffington Post

How much does Proton Mail cost?
Proton Mail has several in-app purchases/subscriptions, the average in-app price is 323.20 H$.
this firm pays lots of effort to exploit customers. I was their Proton Unlimited customer and my renewal price was far higher than the current new joiners. I tried to let my subscription lapse and subscribe the Unlimited plan again, but it still bans me from the existing subscription plan.
I don’t understand why they punish the loyal customers by banning them from the opportunity of enjoying the lower subscription prices. After having used their top-tier subscription for years, I decided to quit. This company doesn’t respect and care the existing customers. It doesn’t worth me spending on time anymore
I also need Delivery Notification and if possible Read Notification
Thanks for free and very practical app but I also need Delivery Notification and if possible Read Notification. Above are available in my Outlook Desktop App which is also capable of encryption.

The new domain name is blocked in mainland China
Very bad graphic
I know this is up to personal preference, but the new look just lack of the gravity of proton used to offer. The purple hue is so strong, I really miss the old one. The design language has not considered the nature of proton surface in my opinion.
Much better, but still missing basic features
The last major update added threaded conversations, which is extremely helpful. The design is also a major improvement, along with Dark Mode. Very grateful for these updates!
However, there are still some basic features that are missing:
- The search function only searches subject headers, not message contents. This makes it really hard to find specific messages.
- There’s no permanent sidebar, even on 12.9” iPads. So it still feels like a huge phone app at times.
- There isn’t proper gesture support for trackpads. For example, I have to click and hold on an email to swipe it left or right. In most other email apps I can just use the two-finger swipe gesture.
- The external keyboard support is very basic. For example, I can’t enter my PIN with a keyboard — I have to tap the screen instead.
- There are no keyboard shortcuts. Wow.
- There’s no drag and drop. So to move an email to a folder I have to tap and hold to select the email, then tap the Move button, then tap the folder, then tap Done. Feels like I’m living in iOS 10.
I’m on ProtonMail’s free tier, so I’m grateful for what I’m getting. But I’m also hesitant to subscribe when their app lacks these basic features. That said, the recent updates are very promising. Glad to see that the app is moving forward — keep up the good work!
