Description

NOT JUST ANOTHER MEDITATION APP
Don’t think of Waking Up as a conventional meditation app—think of it as a new operating system for your mind, and a guide to living a better life.

We aim to offer a far deeper approach to mindfulness than you’ll find elsewhere—one that fundamentally transforms how you see yourself, and the world around you.

But you’ll also discover life-changing, secular wisdom from top scholars and experts, on everything from sleep and doing good in the world to time management and happiness.

Waking Up is free for anyone who can’t afford it. We never want money to be the reason why someone can’t benefit from what we’ve built.

***Created by Sam Harris
Sam Harris, neuroscientist and best-selling author, built Waking Up to be the resource he wished he’d had when he began exploring meditation over 30 years ago.

Sam only includes those practices and insights he’s found to be utterly life-changing. The same is true for the many teachers, scholars, and experts you’ll meet throughout the app.

***A step-by-step approach to mindfulness
We’ve heard from thousands of members who say they never really understood meditation until they took our 28-part Introductory Course.

Whether you’re a beginner or advanced practitioner, you’ll dive straight into the deep end of real mindfulness, so you don’t waste any time on the surface.

***Learn the true purpose of meditation
Meditation is about more than just relieving stress, sleeping better, or improving your focus. While it can help you do all of that, our goal is ultimately to help you open the door to a deeper understanding of yourself.

***A place for serious seekers
Explore some of life’s most important questions, on topics like neuroscience, psychedelics, enlightenment, ethics, and Stoicism—from renowned authors and professors like Oliver Burkeman, Michael Pollan, Laurie Santos, Arthur C. Brooks, James Clear, and others.

***In-depth theory and practice
Waking Up explains both the theory and the practice of meditation —so you don’t just learn the “how” of mindfulness, but also the “why.”

You’ll be guided by prominent figures like Joseph Goldstein, Diana Winston, Adyashanti, Jayasāra, and Henry Shukman, who teach a wide range of contemplative practices, including Vipassana, Zen, Dzogchen, Advaita Vedanta, and more.

***Timeless insights, modern lens
Within Waking Up, you’ll find some of the most profound spiritual teachings from throughout history—those that have stood the test of time. And you’ll hear from historic voices like Alan Watts.

But we also pressure-test ancient wisdom against modern science, so you won’t find outlandish claims or anything we haven’t found to be empirically true.

***A comprehensive guide
Waking Up supports your growth and development in a number of different ways. You’ll find an abundance of useful features, like meditation timers, in-app support messages, an ever-growing audio library, and daily reminders to help bring your mindfulness practice into your life—plus, Waking Up allows you to save all of your meditation sessions to your Apple Health app.

“Waking Up is, hands down, the most important meditation guide I’ve ever used.” Physician Peter Attia

“If you’ve had trouble getting into meditation, this app is your answer!” -Susan Cain, best-selling author

“Waking Up is not an app, it’s a path. It is equal parts a meditation guide, a philosophy master-class and a highly-focused TED Conference.” -Eric Hirschberg, former CEO of ACTIVISION

Mindfulness Without Borders!

The title says it all-mindfulness training without the religious baggage taught by a real spiritual savant(that’s meant to be a compliment, Sam 😀).

Most valuable app ever

Mdmdmdmo on

United States

Waking Up is hands down the most valuable app I’ve ever encountered. From in-depth conversations with world-class experts to diverse meditation styles rooted in real practice and research, the content is unparalleled. Each session tackles important topics—procrastination, distraction, and pain management—and is both enlightening and practical. As someone dealing with ongoing health challenges, I’ve found genuine relief and support through its guided meditations for physical and emotional pain. With experts from Zen, Dzogchen, and beyond, Waking Up offers an inclusive, comprehensive path to mindfulness. I’ve recommended this app to everyone I know not for any incentives, but simply because I believe in its value.

Excellent Meditation App

I joined for a free month a while back and I got a taste of the 28 introductory course with Sam Harris. I love his style of guided meditation, and that there’s time to sit quietly (I add his background music too), and also to contemplate the concepts he’s bringing to my attention. Now I’m in the daily guided meditations and I love that you can add minutes to them, in the middle of the meditation to have more time to sit. I’ve never been consistent at meditation and Sam’s app has been drawing me into it on a daily basis. I love it. Thank you!

The most life-changing app I have ever used

matthewmight on

United States

I had tried other meditation apps and enjoyed them. I was familiar with some of Sam’s work, and I had always respected his approach. So, I was curious to try Waking Up. To say it’s changed my life just doesn’t capture it. I started using it for meditation, but I have come to love all of the other content provided by the app. The conversations are powerful, in the way that Sam draws s much wisdom out of others. I also love the Life section that was added after I subscribed. There is so much practical wisdom for living a better life there from so many great teachers that I continue to grow from listening and implementing it. After a year, I got the lifetime subscription, and it’s been worth every penny. I don’t think a day goes by that I don’t listen to something new on here, and I could see myself happily doing so for the rest of my life.

Life Changing

I can’t explain it, but Waking Up is a life changer. The saying “if you work it, it works” applies here. I am past the intro course and I wish the secondary courses were as structured. Also it would be awesome if we could add certain courses to our Home Screen. Thanks for it all, Sam.

Epic. Absolutely epic.

I struggled to build and deepen my meditation practice with apps like Headspace and Calm, yet felt the call to explore consciousness and better understand the nature of my self and mind. This app was exactly perfect for me. It is enthralling and effective, and the skills it’s brought me have utterly transformed my experience of reality existence, and self, with nuggets that have led me to meaningful breakthroughs. Thanks for offering your insights, Sam!

A simple approach to meditation

somebodyinparticular on

I like the directness with which this program guides the meditator to the true nature of consciousness. The Introductory Course wastes no time in building the skills to gently inspect our awareness as we experience our senses, our bodily sensations, and, perhaps most importantly, our thoughts. This allows literally anyone to experience the profound difference between being lost in thought and witnessing thought.
