Description

WHOOP is a wearable that tracks sleep, strain, recovery, stress, and health biometrics 24/7, providing you with personalized coaching based on your goals to help unlock your best performance. WHOOP is screenless, so all of your data lives in the WHOOP app — for a distraction-free focus on your health. The WHOOP app requires a WHOOP wearable.
WHOOP does more than track your activity — it translates your data into clear next steps. WHOOP captures your biometrics 24/7 to calibrate specifically to your body’s unique physiology, then recommending everything from when to go to bed to what behaviors to adopt to help you reach your goals.
Here's how it works:
Sleep: Every night, WHOOP calculates your sleep performance by measuring the sleep you got
compared to the sleep your body needs. You'll wake up to a sleep score from 0 to 100%. Sleep Planner lets you know when you should go to bed to optimize your performance the following day. Now, with the release of WHOOP 4.0, Sleep Planner can also wake you when you've set an exact time, once you've reached your sleep goal, or when you're fully recovered using a quiet, vibrating haptic alarm.
Strain: WHOOP does more than just track your activity – it measures how much physical and mental stress you put on yourself throughout your day to calculate a daily Strain score ranging from 0 to 21. WHOOP measures both your cardiovascular and muscular load, even quantifying the impact of your strength training, to give you the most comprehensive view of the demands you put on your body. Every day, Strain Target will recommend your optimal target exertion range based on your Recovery score to help you maximize your gains without sacrificing your Recovery.
Stress: WHOOP gives you daily insight about your stress, and science-backed techniques to help manage it. Get a real-time stress score from 0-3, and based on your score, choose a breathwork session to either increase your alertness for performance, or increase relaxation in a stressful moment. See your stress trends over time to identify triggers.
Recovery: WHOOP lets you know how ready you are to perform by measuring your heart-rate variability, resting heart rate, sleep, and respiratory rate. You'll get a daily Recovery score on a scale of 0 to 100%. When you're in the green, you're ready for strain, when you're in the yellow or red, you may want to evaluate your training program.
Behaviors: Track the impact of over 140 daily habits and behaviors, like alcohol intake, medication, stress, and more, to better understand how these various behaviors help or hurt you.
WHOOP Coach: Ask questions about your health & fitness and get highly personalized, specific-to-you answers on demand. Using your unique biometric data, the latest in performance science, and OpenAI's technology, WHOOP Coach generates responses on everything from training plans to why you’re feeling tired.
What else you can do in the WHOOP app:
• Dig into the details: See a breakdown of your activities by heart rate zone, and even see trends across Sleep, Strain, and Recovery up to 6 months at a time to adjust your behaviors, training, plans and more
• Join a team: Stay motivated and accountable by joining a team. Chat directly with your teammates in the app, or as a coach, see how your team's training is going
• Apple Health: WHOOP integrates with Apple's Health app to sync activities and personalize your experience

Awful customer service

Whoop has been great but going close to two weeks no data and the service from whoop has been shocking, taking days at a time to respond with messages that are unclear and unhelpful. Also had to spend $100 on new chargers to find out it’s the device but still don’t have my replacement. Honestly considering going back to garmin.

Tried it for a year; not for me

NorthBethesdaTroglodyte on

Whoop appealed for me as a lower cost way to try out some smartwatch features. However, a caution to those considering the free trial: Some number of Whoop’s features will not calibrate in that first month. You would need to hang onto the device for longer to unlock insights or track your body temp over time. The Whoop algorithms just don’t seem to work for me, an active middle-aged person who is not a self-described athlete. I had a lot of recovery and strain scores that did not match my energy level or perceived rate of exertion. The Whoop “Insights” tab just runs correlations, so don’t depend on that data too much. Things that very obviously were not helpful to my health and recovery, like having a migraine, ranked reasonably highly as contributing to my recovery in the Whoop app. Over my year with the Whoop, I found the app demotivating. After a two-hour workout where I spent 80 minutes at 80-90% of my max heart rate, the app told me I had a “restorative day.” During weeks when I was losing weight (in a calorie deficit) and exercising regularly, Whoop estimated my calorie expenditure at just 1440 calories per day, well under the 1700-1800 calories online calculators estimate someone my age, sex, height, and weight needs for at their resting metabolic rate. The calorie expenditure estimates during my workouts were laughably low; I was once credited with 33 calories for 25 minutes of rowing at a moderate pace. Two days later, the app said a 30-minute moderate rowing workout burning 202 calories—still low but a wildly different number. I wanted better ways to track my workouts while using Whoop. My first problem is that some number of my highest strain workouts are in the backcountry. Without a cell signal, Whoop routinely loses data, especially if you have more than one workout in a day. There is no automated way to compare data (distances, pacing, heart rate) over time or to export it to an app that can make those comparisons. Charging didn’t work well on my device (v 4.0). Overnight charging never restored the battery to better than 90 percent. Most recently, I awoke to find my battery had gone from 8 percent to just 40-something percent while I slept. The battery pack is also a bit uncomfortable to wear due to its bulk and weight. Sometimes a full charge last five days, and other times it last two days. I used the vibrating alarm a few times and then never again. In my experience, no amount of smacking it—hard enough to awaken my bed partner

Sad quit working after 7 mo on annual membership

App states it wasn’t on body when it was 100% charged & placement a few inches up the arm as instructed by customer assistance. If I paid monthly, you might get customer assistance that actually cared. Don’t buy a annual membership!

Really wanted to love it, too bad

It’s not one thing that I didn’t like, it was a combination of things, combine with the very steep monthly cost. I just felt I’m not getting my moneys worth. Starting with inaccuracies, through rigidness in logging data, to the simple fact that I didn’t get any actionable insights I didn’t already possess. Taking the information I gained from whoop, I wouldn’t pay for it more than I do my gym, just not worth it. Maybe if it was 30/year or if I was a pro athlete, otherwise my Apple Watch with its inaccuracies does just as much and more for me in my fitness journey

I ordered the whoop for free With 1 month free membership From a podcast i listen to, never received my item. Emailed back and forth with whoop stating I want to cancel my membership bc I never received my item. They canceled, great. Now months later I’m getting 260$ charges from whoop !!!! Make that make sense! I don’t use whoop don’t have one and my membership was canceled! Stop trying to charge me!!!

No steps, not very accurate activity tracking

Cait6969 on

It would be so easy for them to track steps, I don’t get why they wouldn’t. I would be more likely to renew if they did. They are only able to track certain activity and can’t track surfing hardly at all. The sleep tracking works fine, just as well as oura. I don’t trust the calories burned either. I do like the strain goals, oura doesn’t have that.

Making money off Hypochondriacs smh

This watch does not tell you accurate information, I just played a soccer game and it’s telling me my heart rate was lower than it was yesterday when I did nothing but sit on the couch. Not worth spending the money each month IMO, especially in todays tough economic times, money can spent much better elsewhere
