Description

WHOOP is a wearable that tracks sleep, strain, recovery, stress, and health biometrics 24/7, providing you with personalized coaching based on your goals to help unlock your best performance. WHOOP is screenless, so all of your data lives in the WHOOP app — for a distraction-free focus on your health. The WHOOP app requires a WHOOP wearable.

WHOOP does more than track your activity — it translates your data into clear next steps. WHOOP captures your biometrics 24/7 to calibrate specifically to your body’s unique physiology, then recommending everything from when to go to bed to what behaviors to adopt to help you reach your goals.

Here's how it works:

Sleep: Every night, WHOOP calculates your sleep performance by measuring the sleep you got
compared to the sleep your body needs. You'll wake up to a sleep score from 0 to 100%. Sleep Planner lets you know when you should go to bed to optimize your performance the following day. Now, with the release of WHOOP 4.0, Sleep Planner can also wake you when you've set an exact time, once you've reached your sleep goal, or when you're fully recovered using a quiet, vibrating haptic alarm.

Strain: WHOOP does more than just track your activity – it measures how much physical and mental stress you put on yourself throughout your day to calculate a daily Strain score ranging from 0 to 21. WHOOP measures both your cardiovascular and muscular load, even quantifying the impact of your strength training, to give you the most comprehensive view of the demands you put on your body. Every day, Strain Target will recommend your optimal target exertion range based on your Recovery score to help you maximize your gains without sacrificing your Recovery.

Stress: WHOOP gives you daily insight about your stress, and science-backed techniques to help manage it. Get a real-time stress score from 0-3, and based on your score, choose a breathwork session to either increase your alertness for performance, or increase relaxation in a stressful moment. See your stress trends over time to identify triggers.

Recovery: WHOOP lets you know how ready you are to perform by measuring your heart-rate variability, resting heart rate, sleep, and respiratory rate. You'll get a daily Recovery score on a scale of 0 to 100%. When you're in the green, you're ready for strain, when you're in the yellow or red, you may want to evaluate your training program.

Behaviors: Track the impact of over 140 daily habits and behaviors, like alcohol intake, medication, stress, and more, to better understand how these various behaviors help or hurt you.

WHOOP Coach: Ask questions about your health & fitness and get highly personalized, specific-to-you answers on demand. Using your unique biometric data, the latest in performance science, and OpenAI's technology, WHOOP Coach generates responses on everything from training plans to why you’re feeling tired.

What else you can do in the WHOOP app:

• Dig into the details: See a breakdown of your activities by heart rate zone, and even see trends across Sleep, Strain, and Recovery up to 6 months at a time to adjust your behaviors, training, plans and more
• Join a team: Stay motivated and accountable by joining a team. Chat directly with your teammates in the app, or as a coach, see how your team's training is going
• Apple Health: WHOOP integrates with Apple's Health app to sync activities and personalize your experience

Excessive overheating

Good App, however it rapidly heats up my 15pro. Due to high cpu usage when not doing anything on the app. Please fix.

Many imperfect but interesting features

zoltan.adorjan on

Whoop is great, for about the first 3-4 months. It allowed me to track my habits that have affected my recovery, and helped me make a few lifestyle changes but. 1) once you figured out the 1 or 2 things that affect recovery whoop fails to deliver on reliable insights or even new insights 2) it’s sold as performance optimisation but you can’t set your heart rate zones, it also won’t adjust to your zones naturally so therefore all recovery and strain calculations are off 3) with strain and recovery as imperfect measure it completely loses all value. I’d rather buy an Apple Watch for RHR, Sleep and HRV than subscribe to whoop for £200+ a year 4) the insights they try to sell you on can’t really be customised and don’t really make for a compelling feature just yet 5) the strength trainer doesn’t work without data so gyms in hotels when in a basement are a huge issue. Even weak WiFi won’t be enough for it to work well. Then there are simple features like stopping, starting, pausing and editing workouts on the fly are not there or don’t work well 6) whoop can’t replace a smart watch as it can’t track exercise at all, it’s probably less accurate than Strava and it’s way too unreliable. Overall whoop should stick to one of many features and improve it rather than try to do too much. Not worth the money yet.

Glitchy and not helpful

SamB888 on

Unfortunately I didn’t realise that i was signed up on the ‘yearly membership’ at the end of my free trial so ended up paying for a full year (like over 200 quid). Been wearing since August and honestly haven’t found it helpful at all- it glitches quite frequently and will often have data missing. It will randomly detect activity when i haven’t moved? The community feature is really lacking- i honestly don’t know why its there? The ai ‘coach’ is vague and gimmicky. I also used the ‘Athlytic’ tracking app- which takes data from my apple watch- and charges £26 for the year. It gave me all the same information and was fairly consistent with the whoop results, but less frequently didn’t track my sleep or recovery. So not sure why whoop is so expensive? They removed the ‘chat with support’ function and i can only tell the AI coach when I have a problem- which says its emailing the customer support team and I will get a confirmation email of this- no email. The whole experience is pretty disappointing for the price, i think whoop just has good marketing.

Brilliant

BillyBoBagins on

The app, device and coaching overall is brilliant. Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t understand how to use it and should stick with a Fitbit. Highly recommended.

Somewhat useful but be careful of free trial because they make sure you’ll be charged.

Yen47 on

Tried it out during the promoted 1 month risk free trial, paying £8 for delivery only. What wasn’t clear is you need to end the trial at least 2 weeks earlier because they will continue charging you until they RECEIVE your returned WHOOP product. Considering it took over a week for it to arrive, the return journey could take anywhere from days to weeks so in the meantime, you’re still having to pay if it goes over the initial month. I’m still waiting for my return label to arrive by email and I don’t know when I can send it back. In the meantime, I’ve already been charged for the month ahead (despite receiving a confirmation email from WHOOP about me ending the trial). Thankfully, I had changed from the default 1 year payment to “just” £27 for 1 month. SO DO BE CAREFUL - they will try in every way to make you pay! About the product itself - there is a good onboarding experience since everything is well explained through videos. The daily journal and habit tracker, planning and coaching had some uses but as a regular Garmin user who is very sports focused (triathlon primarily), I found the WHOOP inadequate for my needs and metrics did not always align to how I actually felt (it said I had great recovery and ready for hard workout when I felt sluggish and vice versa). The strap was annoying during swims because of movement even when I tightened as much as I could before feeling numb. It also stays wet for a while after showering so isn’t great for wearing constantly after all. Eventually I just found that the insights weren’t all that “insightful”. I wore it every day bar 1 and filled in my daily journal every day.

Very poor

Chris Demp on

Getting hold of support takes days! App won’t allow me to log in, this is the 3rd band I’ve had with issues. First had a heating issue and burnt my skin, second wouldn’t log sleep and now it won’t log in. Nightmare product!!!

Worst customer service I have experienced.

PStraits on

I purchased my Whoop three weeks ago, but it was delivered to the incorrect address, and I received no notification of delivery. Upon contacting the courier, I was informed that due to the address error, the package was returned to Whoop. However, Whoop has failed to communicate with me regarding this issue. I emailed their support team last week, and after an initial response stating they were investigating, they have ceased communication and are also unresponsive to phone calls. Thus, I have paid over 200 pounds for a product I have yet to receive, and my attempts to reach out to them have been unsuccessful. So far, the worst customer experience I have ever had.

Overriding manual activity / sleep

Limonjunkie on

I’ve raised this bug so many time in the last 12 months and am just fed up. If I have manually started a sleep activity. Whoop should not create an auto detect sleep during that period. It prevents you saving the manual sleep. Unless you looked specifically at the clock when you went to sleep it messes up the tracking of sleep latency, if I’m constantly having my data not saved because whoop decided to do something else then having to go back and edit what exactly is the point? Same thing with activity. If a user has manually started an activity, clearly I don’t need whoop to auto detect it and prevent the activity I started being saved. The manually started activity or sleep should always take precedent.
