Description

Keep track of the foods recommended by Dr. Greger in his New York Times Bestselling book, How Not to Die, and now his new book, How Not to Diet.

The 21 Tweaks feature, based on How Not to Diet, also provides a weight tracker. The weight tracker can use HealthKit to either save manually entered weight values or to read weight data from HealthKit enabled scales.

In the years of research required to create the more than a thousand evidence-based videos on his website NutritionFacts.org, Michael Greger, M.D, FACLM, has arrived at a list of what he considers the most important foods to include in a healthy daily diet.

Dr. Greger’s Daily Dozen details the healthiest foods and how many servings of each we should try to check off every day. He explains his rationale in his book How Not to Die.

All his proceeds from his books, DVDs, and speaking engagements are all donated to charity.

NutritionFacts.org is a non-commercial, non-profit, science-based public service provided by Dr. Greger, providing free daily updates on the latest in nutrition research via bite-sized videos. He has nearly a thousand videos on every aspect of healthy eating, with new videos and articles uploaded every day.

Main app is great but “21 tweaks” is very concerning

ellesabellsa on

I found out about this app years ago at an event and love the concept. It’s a great way of tracking and being conscious of the staples that should be in your diet and I the Daily Dozen tab every day alongside tracking my macros. However, the 21 tweaks tab (that you can turn on and off) is very concerning. I appreciate the idea is to aid weight loss but almost all of the suggestions are very centred in eating disorder behaviours. I’ve had a diagnosed eating disorder for over 10 years and now am mostly recovered (unfortunately it something that stays with you for life subconsciously). The “tick boxes” are almost all behaviours that I had throughout my worst days and were common amongst other ED sufferers I have met over the years including when I was in a rehabilitation facility. I think that encouraging restrictive and obsessive food and weight behaviours (eg weighing yourself twice a day?!?) is really concerning and damaging and I would urge you to rethink and consider healthier, more balanced and sustainable habits for this section if you aim to keep it to avoid people developing potentially very damaging mindsets and food habits. Eating disorders affect your body and your mind and although you can recover and live a healthy happy life after it completely changes you forever and while dealing with it can not only be detrimental to you but the people around you. Please review and look at the 21 tweaks section and make it something that can positively impact people’s physical and mental health and be sustainable and balanced.

Absolutely love this app, it’s been a game changer!

Really excellent app

Radii8 on

This is a really excellent app. I've been following it a while now and although it is a lot harder than it at first seems, the format is so simple it makes it very accessible and appealing. My only wish is that along with the '21 tweaks' and information sections there was a free form section where you could add your own tickboxes. For example I am supposed to take a high strength iron supplement every day and although, yes, I could note this in another app I'd much rather have it all in the one app. But for a free app it is amazing 🙂

Good for thought

This is such a useful app and works perfectly after reading ‘How Not To Die’. I sometimes thinking I am getting all the good stuff in, but when I use the app it is a perfect reminder, and the information also encorages me to have variety in my diet. Big thumbs up from me. Thank you.

This helps me meet my goals

This should replace every ’diet’ app

Easy to use app that creates the habit of eating healthy foods every day. I love that it doesn’t focus on calorie counting or points, but has a straight forward checklist of the foods you should aim to eat every day. Listen to thecreator’s book ‘How Not To Die’ or watch Nutritionfacts.org free and informative videos and you’ll understand the importance of this approach to nutrition. Thank you for another valuable resource Dr Gregor!

Excellent, thanks a worthwhile app and time worth spent, what I have been waiting for. A brilliant idea thank you for all the informative information which is paramount accompaniment to daily living to mould good habits along side exercise, two of the important factors for wellbeing.💪😇

App no good for fat fingers!

Love Dr Greger and the concept of the app... just still left tapping ineffectually on the tick boxes. Such a shame as nothing I like better than ticking things off 🤓! Hopefully will work better when I eventually upgrade from iPhone 6 🤔
