Goodreads FAQ
Is Goodreads free?
Yes, Goodreads is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is Goodreads legit?
🤔 The Goodreads app's quality is mixed. Some users are satisfied, while others report issues. Consider reading individual reviews for more context.
As a tool, Goodreads is a great way for me to find new books. I’d recommend it to any reader. The app itself features a fresh UI that is bright and stimulating. It would be even better if it had a night mode or system detect as other applications do. This would be especially useful for ebook readers in need of less harsh conditions for their eyes. I’d be more inclined to use the app at night time (when I read) if the application UI was not so intense.
Very Disappointing for Well Known Website
This app is absolutely horrible! You are lucky if it ever loads as you just get error messages all the time! Want to update your book progress to show that you finished a book for your yearly goal? Too bad. You go in to add the end date and just error messages. Close out the app to restart, same thing. I’m officially tired of this and going to delete this app and go to something else that doesn’t have these issues! So disappointed!
Book Count Glitches
I was updating my “read books” and the book count would go up, then go down by like 20 books. I’ll scroll through my list and they’re all there, but then my profile will say a completely different number. Every time I open the app, the number changes, even if I haven’t put any more books on or off. It’s very strange.
The Only Place to look!!
This app has nearly had ok I want to check out!! LOVE Goodreads!!
Perfect for book worms
It’s nice to have all the information of my TBR list in one place, be able to see my progress throughout the book, leave a review, and read other reviews. A few user-experience updates I wish they would make is to have a section for quotes for found in physical books, a time tracker for audiobooks, and incremental star-rating options (.25, .50, .75)
Sudden App Crashing
I like this app, but I would use it more if it were less prone to crashing. That’s happened quite a few times when I’ve been in the middle of writing a review. The notification system is also glitchy. I feel like I would use the app more if the platform were set up in a more user-friendly way.
App is very useful for me to keep track of the books I read and want to read
I also love seeing what others are reading and the reviews.
Still needs work!
I tried the GR app for iPhone when it was first released, but soon found it too frustrating because it lacked too many features/the full functionality of the website.
Now 12 years later, I downloaded it again to see if it would possibly help in some mysterious way to export text as a Quote from a Kindle ebook (on my iPhone) to GoodReads. No such luck. What I found was that the ‘Quotes’ section that usually displays on the website (in Desktop View) doesn’t appear at all in the app. Wow. Still as dumbed-down as before. (Website still as dysfunctional as ever, too.) I’m being generous giving the app 2 stars, TBH. It’s probably okay for newbies to GoodReads who don’t know to expect more functionality. But if you need or want to use all functions, the app is a waste of time.
Like it
I love how I can keep track of books I read and recommendations from friends all on my phone!
A must!
I used to keep track of my books in a little notebook, and I do still make little notations in that journal sometimes. But the more I read and log my books here, the more I’m grateful for it. A solid way to track allll the books, the ones to be read, the ones you have read, and the ones you’re working on reading already. I also just recently learned that I can update the progress and make little notations as I progress through the book which is my favorite! Truly a must 😌
