My go-to podcast app. After recent rewrite, there were a few bugs but I fell in love all over again!
I’ve noticed lately that when I pause an episode and then come back to it later. It will often start the next podcast in my feed. Rather than finish an episode that is half over, it jumps to the next one. Sometimes this happens when hitting play on the Home Screen app widget and sometimes when switching Bluetooth devices such as from my AirPods to my truck.
Update: now it’s skipping randomly to the end of podcasts and deleting. Even when marked to manual deletion. It’s shocking what’s happened to this app. I’ll struggle with it for a bit. See if it gets worked out. The iPad version is completely unusable.
Off the buttons, don’t do anything when trying to use CarPlay. Seeing as how I use this 99% of the time through CarPlay, this is not great.
I listen to too many podcasts to try to find an alternative, but it has become increasingly buggy since the big update. It’s frustrating, because this has been a very good app. I find it most problematic when it comes to the queue. While I’m grateful that the ability to stream without downloading, I’ve noticed sometimes episodes don’t play or vanish from the list and it’s constantly losing the back button so I have to reboot the app. Not great!
Maybe the best podcast player
Overcast is an excellent podcast app with great options and timely improvements!
As others have mentioned the latest updates are really buggy. My biggest pet peeve at the moment is how difficult it is to scroll through a podcasts chapters and notes without accidentally jumping to another chapter. It’s comical how bad it is. Please fix this.
Loving the update, especially with the quality of life fixes in the intervening months… especially the timer being put back, and chapter navigation being made more natural. Overcast feels fresh again and I love it.
I've used Overcast for almost ten years for one reason. It had simplicity. There was one list. If an episode was on my "queue" it was downloaded, and if it was downloaded, it was on my "queue" (Why does it need to be more complicated than that?). This simplicity was what gave Overcast an edge over all the other players, but now, its developers have decided to clone Apple, Stitcher, and all the other players that adorn their apps with useless bells and whistles.
