Favorite iOS Podcast app

Been using this app for years, love it.

Fix queue and download system please

I’ve used this app for years. It’s great in so many ways but there are a couple things, that are just kind of timelessly annoying about it. Firstly: the queue system. If I want to fall asleep to a podcast or two and not burn through a whole feed overnight, there’s no way to do that. Either I set “stop after each episode” and have to repeatedly go find a new episode, or I use the kinda hard-to-use queue system (or I use sleep I guess?) Perhaps make the queue easier to use/accessible on every screen? Either way it’s a very frustrating system. Secondly: what’s with the download system? Why are there like 100 things in the queue all the time? If I’m about to go on a flight with no wifi, why do I have to fight the app to download a single episode so I can have it to listen to on that flight? Making a decision on a per-episode basis about whether to “stream when played” versus downloading is frankly insane. These are not sane defaults. If a download is forced via a swipe on an episode: could that be force downloaded immediately, rather than putting into download queue purgatory?

Excellent audio engine, chapters don’t work.

Updating for 2024, but no change… I’m frustrated with chapter support, it only works on ones that encode that in the audio file itself and NOT the ones that publish the json chapter file in the RSS feed. Overcast audio engine does things no other app I’ve tried does with smart speed. It sounds natural and saves time beyond just speed increases, IMO better than just remove silence.

Great Resource

Condenses my news time down to one hour per day… Only way to improve this site would be allowing customers to prioritize their favorites instead of alphabetizing their list.

The podcast app for the real ones :)

The recommendation algorithms aren’t helpful. All I want my podcast app to do is help me organize and listen to my podcasts. This is by far the best one.

Great Podcast App

I spend a lot of time in Overcast each week listening to podcasts. I love how SmartSpeed takes out pauses without making the audio sound weird.

Better than Apple’s version

Overcast is greatly preferred to Apple’s version - much more pleasing to search, use, view & organize various channels. Thank you for your efforts!

Love the nitpicky details

Overcast gives listeners a lot of leeway to control, in their words, the nitpicky details. My only wish would be to have a companion app for PC.
