Awful Update

Reaxn on

Awful update, what was the developer thinking? Totally convoluted and confusing interface now. Deleting!

updates make the app harder to use

more clicks to do things that use to take one action - why?

Update has bad bugs

TridentSpring on

United States

New update has major bugs. Podcast playlists stop playing and downloads, which are now required since streaming is no longer included, don't always fully download. Continuous play is still broken despite the last bug fix saying it’s repaired. Playlists don't reliably advance to either playing the next episode or playing the top of the playlist, depending on which option is selected.

Used to love Overcast.

I’ve been an Overcast user for many years and always loved the app. That ended abruptly when the latest update came out. The app is now so user unfriendly I can’t believe it came from the same developer. Please consider rolling back and taking another shot at it. Until then I’m jumping ship and going to a different podcast player. :(

New updates broke the app

Zombie 44 on

United States

This was my favorite podcast app for years but this latest major update broke it entirely. I lost the use of the queue playlist that i can no longer sort according to my own order, only having 2 real options. Mass download per playlist and many other features are completely gone. The player screen has changed and has become more complicated and annoying to traverse. The navigation while scrolling through podcasts has become so confusing, before there was a small expansion to the menu that had the most useful commands at the front and a drop down menu for specific commands, now its a giant drop down with more drop down menus that can contain more drop downs; commands that use to take one to two inputs now take 2-3 or more inputs if the options is even there. The app has gotten needlessly more complex and less intuitive. And now it’s significantly more buggy with every new update since the major change.

Used to be user friendly, not anymore

CAR4506 on

The newest version of Overcast is cumbersome and frustrating. I can no longer download the episodes in my queue—they have to be individually downloaded as I listen. This negates ease of listening while driving. I’m also having issues with downloading some podcast episodes. I did a test on Apple Podcasts and it worked just fine. If this situation continues, I’ll go back to Apple again. I’m not pulling over every 20-30 minutes to “download” the next episode in my queue. This is a dumb change

Great app - well not as great

I have used this app for years and have been pleased with its progression until now. The latest redesign has not been user friendly and there are bugs introduced that are very annoying. For the us particularly annoying is the Queue is no longer reliable at downloading podcasts. I use to be able to load up a bunch of podcasts and it would play the. One right after the other. That is no longer the case. It will randomly have a podcast that doesn’t download, and these are podcasts that I have listened to for years without any download issues. It’s now broken with the update. Once was what stable is very unstable now. Hopefully this can get fixed soon to restore this valuable feature. ————— I have used this app for quite a while and it has just gotten better over time. It’s easy to use and is responsive. On most occasions, I’ve never noticed a lag from when I select and episode to play and when it starts playing. Other apps of this type that I’ve used exhibit a noticeable delay. My one feature request is to provide a way to quickly find podcasts that I’ve started but have not yet finished. I have different podcast tiers. When a tier 1 pops up, I stop my tier 2 to listen to the new one. I would like to easily go back to the previous podcast.

Now Playing “cards” were better…

computiNATEor on

I really miss the “card” style interface that held the audio settings and the podcast either timeline and/or the description. It felt much faster, prettier, and easier to use. Still has the best fast-forwarding engine in the game. Makes all other podcast players feel broken.

Baffling update.

What an absolutely baffling update. * It is already bad that streaming is no longer supported because the author can't be bothered with it anymore, but the very fact that the "Download" swipe action was removed and replaced with a three (3!) clicks action straight to the bottom of the most sluggish pop up menu speaks volume about his experience with poor network conditions. * The aforementioned swipe is now "Favorite". WHO FAVORITES a podcast episode? Who has the time to listen to the same episode twice? If the swipe actions could be configured, sure, but apparently not. * The very useful "Play next" action is also gone. Worst yet, it sometimes shows up in the 3-dot menu, sometimes doesn't, for absolutely NO reason (all from the very same, "All Episodes" playlist). * This version is absolutely not "way faster", be it from a performance or usability standpoint. I have an iPhone 14 Pro and I can *see* the UI struggling to expand the button toolbar. I can see how long it takes for the 3-dots menu to render. I want to listen to a podcast, not watch the paint dry on a menu because the author wanted to add some flourish. This only makes the new, aforementioned usability choices worse. * Just playing an episode brings yet another UI sheet on top of the current UI. Just play the episode. If one needs to access the details, they can click on the bottom UI, but there is no way bringing yet another layer of UI that needs to be canceled to go back to the main UI would be the preferred action for the majority of people. * Gone is the swipe action to access the very useful timestamps from the episode page. You now have to look for and hit a small "Info" button in the bottom right of the screen. Is the swipe action used for something else now? Nope. Just basic UX 101 here, don't make your UI target SMALLER. And this is just me scratching the surface after making the big mistake of updating my apps; head to Reddit for more shenanigans regarding playlist management woes, episodes failing to delete, etc. Meanwhile, the author is trashing these very reviews on his podcast for not understanding his grand design. How about you let us ignoramuses download the previous version and call it Overcast Classic on the App Store? Offer both, and go to town on the new one. Nobody needed that update. No genius feature was added. No UI/UX award will be won (rounded square buttons inside a toolbar that is fully rounded with no margin, really? The play button flushed against the right side
