Researchers at Monash University have developed the low FODMAP diet and a corresponding app to assist in the management of gastrointestinal symptoms associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The Monash University FODMAP diet works by swapping foods high in fermentable carbohydrates (FODMAPs), with low FODMAP alternatives. Around 75% of people with IBS experience symptom relief on a low FODMAP diet.
The app comes directly from the research team at Monash and includes the following:
- General information about the FODMAP diet and IBS.
- Easy to understand tutorials to guide you through the app and the 3-Step FODMAP diet.
- A Food Guide detailing the FODMAP content for hundreds of foods using a simple 'traffic light system'.
- A list of branded products that have been certified by Monash as low FODMAP.
- A collection of over 70 nutritious, low FODMAP recipes.
- Functions that allow you to create your own shopping list and add notes to individual foods
- A Diary that enables you to record food eaten, IBS symptoms, bowel habits and stress levels. The Diary will also guide you through step 2 of the diet - FODMAP reintroduction.
- The ability to adjust units of measurement (metric or imperial) and activate colour blindness assistance.

Monash FODMAP Diet Reviews
Overpriced for what it is .
I like the diary feature and find it very useful while tracking what Iam eating. The fact you can log not just food eaten but also other things how your feeling , reacting etc is useful. However, the food guide is very basic and not much use . Still have to google the majority of foods. The foods which are on the app you can’t just add to the diary.
Not worth the cost
Hi Monash devs. I’m not sure that this relatively expensive app is really worth the money. To make it more useful, I’d expect to see a list of foods per sugar group so I can get easy an overview for re-introduction; I want to see another filter for serving size (or just an option to get rid of anything rated red or yellow); and an actual ’course’- the current ‘start course’ does nothing of use. Get to work!
Disappointingly Incomplete
Most of the food additives and ingredients I looked up weren’t there. However I do like the fact that proceeds from the app go into research. They just need to do a better job of expediting findings onto the app.
Bloated (excuse the pun) with lackluster features
I’m fine with having paid to contribute to FODMAP research, but this really doesn’t need to be an app.
There’s no login, therefore no backups or data sync between your devices (iPhone + iPad etc)
The diary is just a text box and you can’t reference any foods within the app. Same with the rating system on how you feel each day, there’s no graph to show changes over time.
The country filter is useless, as you might still see about 90% of the products that don’t exist in your country.
The navigation is disjointed so you end up clicking back and forward all, the, time.
The UI is inconsistent, and the traffic light system icons always change direction.
The only value in this app is the list of fruits / vegetables / cereals etc with the traffic light icons. Everything else is, ironically, bloat.
Not working
I downloaded this app yesterday and just sat down to start writing a shopping list and app kept crashing so I uninstalled it thinking that would help and now I cannot reinstall…. Please help
Life saver
This app has helped me in my day to day life so much to identify exactly which FODMAP is irritating me. I couldn’t live without the app now!
Do I really have to be connected to your server to user the app?
Was working then updated to current version with bug fixes and now it won't connect to server and I can't see any foods. And then, the server is fixed and all is good. Seems to me that the data should be offloaded onto the phone so I don't have to be connected to the web to use the app.
